If you find yourself at a point where you believe it’s chill to yell at gamedevs over longstanding issues (that they likely wish they could fix too, but may not be adequately supported to do so), then it may be time to take a break.
I appreciate the people at Bungie. It’s clear the environment there has been rough, and I’m sure navigating everything these past few months hasn’t been easy.

Leveraging older content in current seasons or expansions can be exciting. That said, there are some risks:
1. If old bugs aren’t fixed, they stick out like a sore thumb and can overwhelm the feelings of excitement revisiting an old space.

As a CM or Dev, advocating for “breaks” from live service products is sometimes taken poorly. “How dare you not ~just~ fix the issues” or “why are you telling players to leave the game? That can hurt us in the long run.”
Ultimately it’s honesty and transparency.

From a community standpoint, I’d rather have players leaving happier, even if they’re somewhat disappointed, so they could potentially come back more excited when the issues they find to be highest priority are addressed.

1. It’s never OK, even in jest, to target devs with overblown anger. If you have a large following, you’re potentially pushing your audience to act in turn, with minimal respect. If you’re losing patience, step back. No need to yell.

2. If old loot doesn’t match up to new standards, they bring up lasting feedback points - more focus on “why haven’t these changed” rathe than “oh sweet, excited for the loot!”

My greatest fear in the current climate is that many studios will be pushing to do more with less, and job descriptions/compensation will stagnate.
We'll see how studio restructuring in the face of layoffs lands. It's hard to have confidence of a better AAA future ahead.

Time at Bungie had a few different paybands.
Started at 16/hr contract in 2015 on Player Support, moving from 10.50/hour in retail down in California.
When hitting full time employment in 2017, started ~60k on Player Support.
November of 2020, was making 87k a year as Sr CM.

Live service game can be fun as hell. They’re full of replayability and killer content. That said, no game can sustainably provide years of play with daily sessions without burnout.
It’s OK to put it down and come back.

3. The simplest idea of a fix can be tangled in layers of complexity not understood by folks outside the studio.
Ex: Security - Just hiring an extra head to endlessly watch for toxicity or cheating, in this case, has great potential for quick burnout and a generally shitty job.

Try to build consistent comms to build trust. Be transparent. Don’t put out an article and think “cool, done here.” - convo never ends.
