It. Doesn't. Matter.
Until companies stop treating you as a number, treat companies like a number. They're not your purpose or meaning, they're not your passion or your family.
So i'm getting past the mourning phase and entering my pissed off stage. Overwatch layoffs didn't care about tenure, skill, performance, how expensive you were, how new you were, if you just moved out, if you had a baby the same day as the layoff. 1/3 🧵

That's not possible unfortunately. It's a survival necessity if I'm going to do something 8 hours per day that I do it passionately and care for those around me like family. Can't avoid giving that to my employer or I'd go insane.
@tha_rami
The problem are the companies that weaponise its employees passion, not the people with passion. No experience of merit was created solely for a salary.
@tha_rami
I've always had this mentality when it comes to work and I've butted heads with a few bosses over it. I'm just here to collect a paycheque, I'm not getting payed to be your friend s soon as I'm out the door at the end of the day I don't care what happens.
@tha_rami
That's the nature of it. Never be loyal to a company, anything done or said to build loyalty is to deceive you. You're an expense to an executive who sees only dollar signs.
@tha_rami
My dad often wonders why I don't express loyalty to my employer the way he did when he was my age.
And this is why. I'm a number to them, so it's only reasonable that I treat them as if they were just an entry on my resume.

Our new CEO said “no one should stay at a job for more than 2 years”. Sad that I work for a nonprofit, but he has a point. Anyway I’m old enough to remember when longevity mattered with a company. Now, it doesn’t mean jack. It’s a paycheck, that’s it.
@tha_rami
I wish. Companies, especially tech, no longer treat people like numbers. They see them as statistical data points. People have been *out-numbered* in a universal act of dehuminisation. Time to rise above by making delight, by being present instead of feeding fear algorithms.
@tha_rami
the capitalist programming runs deep. people can’t even find it within themselves to live full lives, they’re too conditioned to sell their time, energy, and health for someone else’s wealth accrual.
@tha_rami
There seems to be a lot of people on this app the last 2 days who think these companies are their friends. I don't know why after everything that's been reported on people still act like Nintendo and Microsoft are their best buds, but it needs to stop.
@tha_rami
Yup, me and few workers are starting to see our current job as just something to bleed for Cisco/Juniper credits for certs in order to get a better job later

@arainydancer
People need to start taking a more mercenary approach to job employment, especially with large corporations. You may have a passion, but it's not theirs to exploit, you're working for the paycheck they give you.
@tha_rami
I once had an employer say 'we're all a family here' and I just blurted out with "Yeah, well, Charlie Manson had a family, so I'd really rather not."
