There is no American flag on the University of Chicago’s flagpole.
Why? Pro-Palestine protesters hoisted up the Palestinian flag. And instead of putting Old Glory back up or allowing patriotic students to do so, UChicago cut the cord for the flagpole.
Shame,
@UChicago

Twitter permanently suspended Emma Woodhouse for observing, in line with a Journal op-ed, that the FDA "conspicuously lowered its standards to approve Covid vaccines for toddlers."
@ContraTyranny
broke this story for the Thinker:

Why would anyone pick Xi? He is a ruthless autocrat who forces Uighurs into indoctrination camps, while depriving his country of any chance at long-term wealth. Any of the other three leaders are light years better!

@ThinkerChicago
has kept UChicago true to its mission of being America's free-speech school. We have held admin to account for dangerous COVID policies which mock our reputation for intellectual inquiry. And we have built a great team.
Excited to be Thinker's editor-in-chief:
We are so excited to announce our new Publisher & Editor-in-Chief, Declan Hurley. Declan is a founding member of the Thinker who previously served as the team’s Vice President of Editorial Operations. We are so grateful for Declan’s hard work and excited to see what he does next!

Michigan early vote returns show that GOPers are returning ballots at a greater rate than Democrats. Since pollsters have indicated a major Democratic advantage in early vote, this shows that Rust Belt states are being poorly polled.

Please join me in imploring

The next step for

The University of Chicago is an incredibly special place. On the eve of final exams, a standing-room only crowd turned out to see a moderated dialogue between

Free speech lives on!
“[S]chools exist for the education of children. Schools do not exist to provide iron-clad jobs for teachers, billions of dollars in union dues for teachers unions, monopolies for educational bureaucracies, [or] a guaranteed market for teachers college degrees...” — Thomas Sowell
The nation’s largest teachers union released a "policy playbook" for the Biden administration:
• "Oppose all charter school expansion"
• "Bar federal funding to charter schools"
• Regulate all charter schools
• Abolish the D.C. school choice program for low-income students
Gov. DeSantis said public health elites “were wrong about the efficacy of the mRNA vaccines.” Indeed, the shots haven’t held up against mutations.
Yet Jonathan Chait accused DeSantis of “courting anti-vaxxers.”
@ContraTyranny
interviewed Chait and pushed back on his narrative:

Trump never had just four states approving of him. He didn’t poll well nationally, in part thanks to sampling bias, but he reliably maintained plurality/majority support in at least 20 states.
@Breaking911
Some polls show Gov. Sisolak losing by high single digits. When masks polled well, politicians laser-focused on electoral advantage adopted them; now they’re running for the hills. It has always been political.
And the CDC had to use a lot of words to say that the

Even worse, the Maroon just broke that UChicago pulled back police protection from the Quad “as a part of preconditions for negotiations.”

As a current UChicago student, I am consistently impressed by President Zimmer but am concerned that someone not as committed to free expression will be his successor. We shall see.
Two UChicago professors served as Trump advisers and saw his administration lay the groundwork for Operation Warp Speed years before COVID took root. But when our professors wrote an article about their experiences, NYT acquired the story and sat on it for months only to kill it.

UChicago pro-Israel protesters reserved space on the Quad, only to be disrupted by pro-Palestine protesters who had no permit. A dean-on-call “arrived wearing . . . the colors of the Palestinian flag” and engaged in “uneven enforcement of supposedly content-neutral restrictions”:
