Why have more than 20 top women's footballers torn their ACL?
Researchers didn't find their answers looking at female physiology - so now they're looking at gender inequalities (finally).
How not to journalism.
This is why we fight for diversity in sport media. This question puts these players in danger. Those of us who have been there, know this. Those who haven't shouldn't know better even if they did parachute in with no knowledge of women's football culture.
Morocco captain Ghizlane Chebbak’s almost in disbelief reaction to the question, says it all.
A completely unethical out of line question that poses safety concerns to the players he asking to be named.
Bizarre push followed.
I got a call about a women's sport event that someone is organising. They wanted to 'pick my brain' about what this event should contain. I asked for a consultancy fee, they said they had no money to spend. This is a VERY EXPENSIVE event.

Most sports reporting isn't reporting, it's advertising and marketing.
Media is not 'giving people what they want', it's creating preference and interest and they're probably being paid to do it.
I have exchanged emails with Sen Claire Chandler that make it clear she's not out to “save women’s sports” at all.
Nothing about facilities, media coverage, equal pay or any of the other issues faced by
#WomenInSport
. Just one issue she has made up.
@7AFL
The image was amazing and not the problem at all. To deal with men being douche canoes, you remove the image of a woman, making all of us invisible? How is that a good solution?

receive 3 times as many negative comments on Facebook sports news pages as men. 27% to 9%. Or, put it this way - every 4th comment is negative compared to every 10th.
Honestly, we should be paying women MORE to put up with this.

I was over in Lismore this week and saw a single ADF truck "on the ground". Plenty parked at SCU doing nothing. It is the community doing all the work, make no mistake.
Look at all these WoSo media legends. These folks do so much work for the game, often self-funded.
Give them all a follow if you're not already.

“Claire is a champion for women’s sport”
Not true. If you search Hansard, the ONLY time Sen Chandler talks about women’s sport is to use it, to use us, to push an exclusionary and transphobic agenda.
This is not what
#WomensSport
is about.
This is not who we are.

Women's sport receives just 4% of media coverage (in the US). That means it would take an entire childhood for girls and boys to see the same amount of sports media coverage for women that they will see for men in just one year.

really have changed football in this country.
Tonight at pub trivia in my small town of 2,500 people, there was not one but TWO questions related to the team.
I love trivia and I love women's sport. This has NEVER happened before.
AND everyone knew the answers🥹
“If reporting harms someone, it is not only unethical but dangerous.”

Good to see the BBC has recognised how inappropriate this question was and have apologised.
You may read a lot of articles with the words, "the science says."
But the thing is, the science does not say.
"The science says" has been used for hundred of years to keep women out of sport.
They banned us. They restricted us. They harmed us.
And they are still doing it 🏳️⚧️

It’s cathartic to see a panel of all-women talking about this. FIFA and all federations better be listening. And take action.

Then imagine your governing body have said they will maybe think about it in 2025.

Sports are working to make sport more welcoming not less. Let me be clear, trans and gender diverse folk have a right to participate in sport.

Dear editors, a pandemic is an epidemic occurring worldwide. So, you do not need 'global' in front of 'pandemic'. Please delete it, it makes me twitch every time.
I have enough to stress me right now without this added trauma.
Here's a thought, when an athlete asks for time out for their mental health, give it to them.
Yes there are good media but mostly it's a cesspit.
The mainstream media model of a race to the bottom for clicks does not serve anyone well.

New fans. Same old problem.
Women and fans of women's sport want to show their support in some of the same ways as men and fans of men's sport. Like jerseys that fit us. Is it REALLY that hard? Spoiler alert: No

“The scale of the backlash has shocked FIFA”
Honestly 🙄 The space between what FIFA think the women's game is and what the women's game actually is, is larger than the gender pay gap.
I did not know this... skeet shooting in the Olympics used to be a mixed-gender competition—until a woman won the gold medal in 1992. The following year, the International Shooting Union, the sport’s international federation, barred women from shooting against men.
