Racists, homophobes, transphobes, ableists, xenophobes & misogynists need not follow me cuz you're gonna have a bad fuckin time. I'm Pan-African, LGBTQ ally and feminist. I don't have time to play with you clowns.
What the fuck is the point of moving to a city because it looks interesting then changing the very things that make that city interesting? Yes I'm talking about gentrification in New Orleans. They kicking Black folks out and trying to stop jazz being played at night.
"Nobody in the world, nobody in history, has ever gotten their freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing them." - Assata Shakur
I hate diaspora wars but I love when somebody says "Black Americans don't look like Africans" then all of Africa comes together to show how much Black Americans do look African because WE ARE AFRICAN 😅. I LOVE IT!
Inserting yourself is one thing. Inserting yourself then changing everything is a whole nother issue. It makes no sense. Why not just take y'all asss back to WASPville, Maine and leave folks culture alone.
@LessieO
Boom! That's exactly it. I was at a bar on Bourbon Street in 2010 and someone called the police on the bar... who the hell moves to Bourbon and complains about noise! These people have lost their minds.
These mufuckas are lost, they don't even recognize their own ancestral pre-Christian European traditions. And the only reason they're so lost is cuz they abandoned it, no colonization, no slavery just abandonment then they turn around and make fun of it. Embarrassing.
They found 215 fuckin bodies behind a jail in Jackson, Mississippi then the state made the families pay to claim the bodies. When I say "fuck the police" I mean that shit. This state truly is hell because this is NOT the first time here in Mississippi.
A friend just showed me "Mfinda". A film in the same spirit as "Spirited Away" but dealing with concepts of Kongo spirituality. As a big fan of the Ghibli aesthetic, seeing an anime that deals with Minkisi (plural of Nkisi) is a dream come true!
I pray that people learn to understand the difference between race and ethnicity. You've got to stop looking at the indigenous people of the Americas through a singular narrow racial lens & see them as individual ethnicities that can come in many phenotypes.
Classic northern Black condescension towards southern Black folks. No y'all are the ones who left the south & changed, Y'ALL are different. Whenever African & Caribbean people say BAs have main character syndrome, they talking bout y'all not us, cuz y'all clueless lol.
@mayowasworld
Yup, that's definitely something you don't hear as much about. Both my parents are Black but I have 3 ethnicities and there are definitely some interesting stories I could tell.
@Anthro_strology
Native Hawaiians and the ethnicities from Southern Louisiana, Mississippi & Alabama such as Native Americans, Creoles and Isleños have a lot common with each other in regards to language/culture loss. I feel you.
Central Africans had an Iron age 4k years before Europe even knew what Iron was. Yoruba & Gbe people have a spirit of Iron & blacksmithing named Ogun/Gu/Egu. We were brought here BECAUSE we had that knowledge. The audacity to act like slavery was beneficial to us is pure delusion
Are y'all aware that New Orleans people can act too? Have y'all ever considered casting New Orleanians to play people from New Orleans? I'm so tired of outsiders playing them and butchering the accent or not even trying. It's not like New Orleans people need jobs or anything...
Imma need y'all to put some respect on Hoodoo fa real. Just cuz you overpaid for some quick initiation in Africa don't mean you can talk down to Hoodoo. The Hoodoo off in them woods in the south is powerful stuff & suited mine & your ancestors well. Belie dat 😎.
@TheKittyanya
Nah, let the rich people VISIT then make them tell the politicians to act right and do their job and clean it up then let the locals flourish.
When people say "why are they still up" or "burn them down" it let's me know they aren't followers of African spirituality. I have 0 intention of destroying the place my ancestors practiced their spirituality & laid their heads to rest. If anything I'd go there to venerate them.
What a lot of people don't understand is Louisiana wasn't originally part of the USA. Black Creoles had an ethnic identity prior to the Louisiana Purchase so they're not trying to be different, they literally are a separate ethnic group. Think Hawaii, Puerto Rico & American Samoa
@CreolePolyglot
Atlanta is a “different” type of black .. Detroit a “different” type of black , Compton a “different” type of black . Whoever they hire for the role should be talented and black and I think it’s kinda weird to dwell on anything else 🤷🏾♀️
We've gotta do a better job of educating Creoles about each other especially diasporans. He's waving a Haitian flag to a song sung by a Guadeloupean/Martinican group called Kassav. In some Instagram comments people didn't know these countries! He's singing gibberish Creole too 😅
I despise the way the entire African diaspora views Haiti. Instead of seeing Haitians for who they are they instead fall for the western propaganda. Y'all need to put some respect on Haiti's name. Haiti is a country that dared to fight colonizers but paid the price.
no diaspora war but other black ppl really do see haitians as the nggerest of nggers. it’s so sobering watching haiti be denigrated in guyanese, kenyan, bahamian, etc media
Carolyn Bryant Donham got to live peacefully to old age but this is what ritually happens to Emmett Till's memorial sign. This speaks loud and clear about how this country views us. Old racists should be hunted & should pay for their crimes, no ifs, ands or buts. Age don't matter
Ayo, bruh this you? Chef Waymo got a job sending Black people to jail and this raggedy mufucka here defending him cuz they birds of a feather. He got a daughter too. She gon grow up and learn her daddy hates Black women. Terrible.
@simsimmaaz
I thought I was the only one! All the colorist weirdos be thinking about what the kids gon look like. I just wanna see what the menu gon look like!
The appropriation kills me though. They have multiple pre-Christian traditions that have been revived from Hellenic to Germanic to Slavic to Celtic but they abandoned all that to appropriate other's beliefs or just be a bunch of consumer drones.
1) As someone who is both Louisiana Creole & African American I respectfully would like to address the issue of some people saying Louisiana Creoles are a subethnic group of African Americans which is not true as both ethnicities originate from 2 totally separate places.
@shaTIRED
The realization and impact of the Columbian exchange is wild. People associate tomatoes with Italy & it's absolutely a thing Indigenous Americans cultivated. Same thing with potatoes and Ireland and Germany. It's nuts.
1.) Yo grandaddy look like a lightskinned nigga from Louisiana or Puerto Rico.
2.) Indigenous people lived in mudhuts here too. Earthen structures are very advanced. Your own self hatred got you lookin like a damn fool.
3.) You look like you from West Africa yo damn self.
@pierrefleury_
I'm just randomly scrolling down my feed and right after your tweet is this tweet from some nigga I don't even follow. The hatred for gay men is so wild. Like why?
Being a Mississippi/Louisiana Creole is honestly not fun. People tell me they love my food, language and culture all the time but every day is a fight against erasure. Every day I speak Creole or French with my kids & friends is an act of revolution,
On the subject of gentrification in New Orleans another problem is my friends told me some of these culture vulture tour guides have been telling their tours that Creoles don't exist anymore. As a militant Creole who speaks Creole & French it puts me on the warpath. Just GTFO.
So I got a package from the Centenary College of Louisiana Press. It's a book called "Févi" (Okra). It's the first book written entirely in Louisiana Creole. Why this is emotional for me is my name is in it & as a Mississippi Creole it feels good to be part of such a project.
Wow New Orleans Museum of Art, a city like New Orleans known for its vibrant African-derived culture & you thought not a single inhabitant was qualified for the position. There's literally an old site called "Congo Square" in New Orleans but nobody Black was qualified...
So that "Creole = mixed" is actually not true. That definition came with Americanization. There are Creoles who are monoracial Black Afro-Creoles or White Creoles. Creole means "born in the colony". It's not a racial classification here but in some countries it become "mixed".
Okay so wait is mixed like…not mixed heritage/DNA?
Like creole ppl out here is mixed folks. It just a specific type of mixed that created an ethnicity. Is that not what coloured is?
@TheDiaspora93
I'm from Mississippi. My mom's side is Creole/Afro-American and they're from Mississippi & Louisiana. My dad is from Jamaica. I could talk about this subject all day long. People would probably get sick of hearing me 😅
This ain't even a Creole thing really, in our old Creole descriptor system she'd be White. Americanization made her Black because White Americans feared local mixed White people. On all documents they're listed as non-White so they live a Black/POC experience LOCALLY
Lingala is too young of a language to have influence on Haitian Creole but Kikongo & Kimbundu absolutely have influenced it along with several other languages in the Americas. From AAVE to Brazilian Portuguese we have Kikongo & Kimbunbdu words. It's amazing how connected we are.
In my dad's country Jamaica they speak something called Kromanti/Maroon Creole/Deep Patwa. It has a lot more Akan words than common Patwa spoken. What shocked me was I just realized they use the word "Sabi" which is found in the pidgins that birthed other Creole languages.
Also for the love of the ancestors stop acting like Yoruba-based spirituality is the center of the world. There's thousands of African systems and they're all valid and equal. Every crossroad spirit ain't Èṣù, every type of divination ain't some form of Ifá. It's vast out there!
While we watch extant fascism continue to grow worldwide might I suggest some reading material for you Black Liberals so you don't get caught lacking cuz your White liberal friends told you wrong. I read the 1st book but I gotta read the 2nd one.
Unlike other French-based creole languages Louisiana Creole aka Kourivini has less than 10,000 speakers more around 7k-6k speakers & I'm one of them. The language made an upturn in the early 2010s amd continues to grow!
In the event that this mufucka (USA) collapses (cuz it's coming lol) and y'all looking for common grocery meat it's not gon be funny then 😅. This Mississippi boy got guns & a cast net, I'm good.
@JabaoThaHutt
I'm 99% sure I'm a descendent of someone who was on the ship called "Clotilda" and I also have recent African DNA and a Nigerian Ijaw 4th cousin. But I look like I'm a Fulani or Tuareg from the Sahel 😅
Of course this gentrifying leech is from California. They been coming in in droves buying everything up and trying to shut down celebrations in New Orleans that have been happening SINCE. I'm so sick of gentrification in New Orleans.
I love this. African Americans had this masking tradition on the east coast but it's not widely known. It's well known on my Creole side but I wanna know the AA tradition more. I heard it might be from Igbo people.
This time of year parts of the Caribbean, particularly the Bahamas, Belize and Jamaica celebrate Junkanoo a musical-spiritual-cultural celebration of freedom. It originated in the epoch of African Chattel slavery. In it's purest form it was how the enslaved expressed jubilation.
In the face of rapid gentrification, cultural erasure & displacement of local culture bearers I don't think it's pretentions to show who you are. New Orleans has a culture & identity that's worth preserving.
I cannot tell you how little I care how many generations your family has lived in Louisiana or New Orleans. If you say that shit, I will judge you a little bit.
@thirdwwife
The city's nickname is "the northernmost Caribbean city". It could be it's own country but these gentrifiers wanna take that all away and make it boring.
Some of y'all join forms of African Spirituality but bring over your LGBTQIA-phobias from the church as if these spiritual systems don't have hella LGBTQIA spirits like Gede Nibo and Logunedé for example. UNPACK YOUR BULLSHIT OR GTFO.
For Creole Heritage Month I'd like to address something I've often seen. I love Haiti and the Haitian revolution but this ain't the flex they think it is. The Louisiana Purchase was devastating to LA Creoles and indigenous folks as well. USA gained and we suffered losses.
@patthesvpreme
Gentrification pushed gangs into the east causing rival gangs to be in the same area therefore increasing crime. The political party of any leadership in this country means almost nothing. They're all capitalist opportunists ESPECIALLY in a city like New Orleans. They all crooks.
@LiviSymone
Yeah I decided to stay out of this mess cuz the overall majority hasn't dealt with folks from this region and until they do its pointless to debate em.
They ignorant about us! Meg is Creole & African American like me. In our African American Hoodoo we have High John the Conqueror a Kongo king & defender & in our Creole Voodoo we have Agoussou the royal leopard King, defender of love & loved ones FAFO!
Nicki thinking she’s automatically more spiritually protected because she’s Caribbean is actually hilarious. the hoodoo girlies been peeped Meg, and that bloodline holds POWER 🤣
@pupp3tStudios
I didn't plan it that way lol, we just ended up together and knowing each other's full ethnicities came later. So now my kids got a meal from a different country each day and they don't know which is which 🤣
Sometimes it can be difficult to tell Louisiana French from Louisiana Creole if you're not a speaker of either language. This video is especially confusing because the man holding the camera is Speaking Creole but the man telling the story is Speaking French.
I stay in solidarity with Irish language speakers. As a speaker of Louisiana Creole which has less than 10k speakers us minority language speakers gotta stick together.
One of the only reasons I say "the Congo" is coincidentally I was playing drums in Congo Square in New Orleans & I approached an elder & asked which Congo he's from. He looked me dead in my eyes with a serious look & said "there's only 1 Congo". Contd...
The replies and QRTs get on my nerves. Non-Creole people still shocked that Black Creoles have white and white passing ancestors/relatives... like nothing about this is shocking nor controversial. It just is what it is.
I saw the Emancipation trailer. Louisiana Creole & Haitian Creole are not the same language & are not interchangeable! The title song says “mwen renmen ou anpil” which doesn't exist in Louisiana Creole & Will Smith's accent isn't a Louisiana Creole accent.
Official Trailer - Emancipation
Inspired by a true story, one man fights through unthinkable terrors in an attempt to reunite with his family.
#Emancipation
, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Will Smith, premieres December 9 on Apple TV+
🇦🇴Angola got the hardest flag on earth. Africa in general got the all the hardest flags out of all the continents but Angola's is the hardest of the hard. I love how the Black American Heritage Flag resembles it a bit cuz I'm a Black American & I have ancestors from Angola.
So many Black folks are disconnected from Black folks outside the southern rural areas. It ain't uncommon to see Black folks out here messin 'round with all kinds of birds and even reptiles. Don't be surprised if you come here and see a brotha feeding some gators nonchalantly 😅
Why are multiple people saying Black Americans don't eat rice? People from the rice coast of Africa were literally enslaved and brought here to cultivate rice. We eat Red Rice, Jambalaya, Dirty Rice/Rice Dressing, Red Beans & Rice, Shrimp Fried Rice... it goes on & on. STFU
@ASAPKnerdy
@shaTIRED
Hell no it doesn't make hurling slurs right BUT it's always the right thing to do to show the WHOLE thing and not cherry pick cuz it look mad suspect when you cherry pick video.
