So inspiring to see Clem, the first PhD student of the lab, talking about her career path!
π€ Curious about the careers of our #PerutzAlumni? Clementine Schouteden from the @DammermannLab graduated in 2013 and has taken an exciting path. She founded her own business specializing in pet care products πΉπ° Check out Clementine's story! π₯ #AlumniStory

1. My top imaging trick to trainees is that before they spend any time taking pictures of the data they just sit there for a while & look at the stuff. Like seriously, sit back, crank some tunes, get cozy & spend some quality time with your slides.

7/7 Our new model: Satellites facilitate the coordinate translation of centrosomal/ciliary proteins. Their concentration near centrosomes in vertebrates is a byproduct of co-translation targeting and incidental to their core function.

6/7 And in vertebrates? Puromycin treatment abolished cytoplasmic signal for centrosomal/ciliary clients, suggesting they are newly synthesized. smFISH further showed an association of PCM1 with centrosomal mRNA independent of the cognate protein.

5/7 So what do they do? TurboID revealed a striking enrichment of RNA-binding proteins, translation factors and PQC components. We hypothesized that CS may be associated with protein synthesis and, indeed, puromycin labeling in S2 cells shows that translation occurs at CS.
