I liked @HadleyFreeman 's point (in Sunday Times re the new "Civilisations") about not seeing the past as "just like us". I would like it I guess, because (advert alert) it is one of the things I discuss in my next book, "Talking Classics", out in April.

Good arguments recently by @kenanmalik , Helena Kennedy & M Gove on juries. For me, there may be case for thinking hard about jury trials but not as crude way of cutting court backlog. Pushing ordinary people out of public decisions is a sure way of playing into hands of populism

I dressed up as Athena for Halloween when I was a kid. Didn't know about the patriarchy thing. I appreciate the additional conversation in here, the analysis, about how paganism was a belief system. Good stuff, @wmarybeard!
