For years I've read articles claiming design is more important than ever in startups. But my observation is it's still usually the last product role that's hired for with the worst equity comp. Founders want PDs to solve huge problems beyond UI but don't set us up to do it.

@netspencer @gokulr To be honest, when companies say it will take 2+ years before someone has impact, it betrays an inability to leverage high performance team members and that’s exactly the kind of thing that makes some people leave so I guess it’s optimizing for the right fit either way.

While it's far less "intelligent", the UX of on-device vision vs GPT Vision, LLaVa, etc is still really great if your use case fits. Fast: a few milliseconds vs several seconds or even a minute you'll wait for a vision model. Reliable: works in airplane mode. And it's free.

Nobody actually cares much about years of experience. In many disciplines the important shifts are:. 1st: you can execute & take feedback well. 2nd: you continuously bring your own insights, systems, process, knowledge, etc to your work. 3rd: you can help others do the above.
