Mixy just hit 1M users and 10M mashups in 3 weeks. Jonah and I met as YouTubers when we were 13. We started making apps together 16 years ago. We were obsessed with the chance to leave an impact on the world. Here’s one of our old 16 hour Skype calls, and here’s to many more

Seeing a creative tool built on desktop or web hurts me. It’s not clocking to you that the future of software is mobile apps and it’s been this way since 2008.

Not sure if this is just nostalgia but I honestly think about this a lot. Feels like the Sistine Chapel of software design. We literally don’t know how to do this anymore.

I gave @prestonattebery a more complicated prototype of Mixy a few months before we launched. That same night he sent me designs showing how we could really dial it in. This feedback was essential for our mvp. Highly recommend @ApplicationClub.

Creativity is unlocked by making creation a linear process. Instagram could not have launched with the Stories UI. It took 10 years to level people up from a linear path to an infinite canvas

Once you “compete” you’re stuck comparing yourself to others and you’ll end up worse because of it. Have a unique point of view, be first, live, laugh, love, and lock in.

I never understood “competition is for losers” until Mixy. Multiple clones popping up, locking kids into paid contracts, paying $100k+ a month in ads just to reach the charts. But they all end up indirectly promoting us as we grow organically with $0 spent on marketing

Most people have been tricked into thinking distribution comes from growth and marketing hacks. I was there after building apps for 3 years at a startup with no traction. But lasting distribution comes from the product. If you don’t have this, start over.

What a well executed launch for Mixy, the AI mashup maker. Take a bow @joekndy. In terms of innovation this might be the most ambitious iOS app we've seen recently and we're rooting so hard for the team to bring this product to its full potential.

design is in such a weird spot. I feel like I can solo design a startup past 1B users. So I really dont see design roles growing at larger companies, probably even more cuts. This forces designers to either start companies, become an engineer, or both.
