It's been a while since I've posted. I might need to prime the pump a little.

Alternate/parallel idea for Camillien-Houde: Zero-emissions vehicles (ZEV) only. Emissions & noise pollution gone. Traffic reduced. Access maintained (for now, at least). MTQ/SAAQ/SPVM have tools to implement & enforce. High impact. Lower strife. Zero cost. Just a thought.

A really excellent tool to visualize how far someone can travel in a set amount of time on transit in the Greater Toronto Area. Fast transit can shrink people’s perception of distance! https://t.co/YJQ5Z0oVtE

Our 2014 by-law was unique to Westmount. UPDATE: Thankfully, the opponents came up short with <20% of the required signatures. It turns out that our Residents welcome more medical offices and clinics nearby after all.

10 yrs ago, Westmount set a quota for medical offices in Victoria Village. Traffic & parking chaos from MUHC didn't happen. We want to rescind the quota. No new bldgs proposed. Commercial space sits empty. Still, opponents in contiguous zones are ready to sign a register today.☹️

Time and time again, Urban3 has produced case studies across American cities that show compact neighborhoods raise the most revenue for cities, while car-centric ones cost more than they raise. Let's legalize building more economically productive, resilient places again.

My advocacy isn’t ‘anti-car…’ It’s pro providing people with viable, safe options to bike, walk or roll to their destinations. We’ve spent the better part of the last century making those options more difficult and more dangerous for e everyone.

For years I have been waiting for something more accessible than @DonaldShoup’s magisterial tome on parking to recommend to people and now @henrygrabar has delivered it. Tell your friends https://t.co/W05mGh8P4h

Property taxes pay for local roads - not gas taxes. If I get in my car, or on my bike, the amount of tax I pay for the roadway I use is the same. Yes you may pay tax at the pump (I don't because my car is electric). Those taxes do not pay for local roads.

This is a tangible risk. The sooner that size & weight disincentives are implemented, the better. Start by at least eliminating the subsidies for oversized EVs. Competition for battery materials is just one of many downsides.

IMPORTANT: Study finds electrifying SUVs/pick-ups could actually INCREASE emissions by using up scarce battery material that could otherwise be used to electrify a lot MORE smaller cars (and e-bikes, etc). Via @ScienceDirect @DavidZipper SUVs are too big.

What an insightful read/listen. I knocked it off in a few days. A worthy expansion on @DonaldShoup’s seminal work. Highly recommend.

Growing up, too many kids have their career aspirations limited by the examples they see around them. When the destination is invisible, the path feels impossible. Introducing new role models today expands options for tomorrow. This is how to show kids what's possible.

Don't say "Parking Requirements" Instead use "Costly Parking Mandates" The language we use evokes emotion and mental short cuts; we like to create coherent stories. Framing the story of parking reform in a compelling way will help us succeed.
