Yesterday, we received further evidence from the @UKStatsAuth highlighting systemic failures within the organisation. In particular, Emma Rourke, the Interim National Statistician, addressed concerns raised by the review of the Transformed Labour Force Survey.

Tomorrow at 10am, we will hold a second session examining the performance of the UK Statistics Authority. Last week’s witnesses will return to continue discussions on the ONS’s budget and planning, and the relationship between UKSA and the Cabinet Office.

Yesterday, Head of @statsregulation Ed Humpherson was questioned about problems at the @ONS. He told the Committee that one of the organisation’s main weaknesses is that it tends to ‘downplay external concerns’.

We have launched an inquiry examining the rules and processes which dictate how, where and when the most important government announcements are made to Parliament. We will seek to establish if the current Ministerial Code is clear, and if the rules are being observed.
