Recruit the person. Recruit the heart. Monetary issues can be figured out. If you’re a good coach, you can develop a player. You can’t teach character.

If you want to play, then practice. If you want to win, then practice harder.

One bitter player can drain a locker room. One grateful player can shift the whole culture. Negativity won’t fix itself; leaders have to: - Call it out - Replace it with belief - Model the energy they want Better > Bitter. Always.

The truth will either set you free or have you creating false narratives. Honesty and transparency are key but must be taken as a stepping stone.

People who believe in you tell you the truth. Your enemies tell you what you want to hear so you will always stay the same. Run to the truth tellers.

Dillingham said he called a couple of veteran coaches he trusted for advice after Utah about how to handle a veteran team playing through a lot of injuries and the advice he got, he listened to. ASU had its hardest Tues/Weds practices of the season, players said.

Urban Meyer said, "It's so easy to be average." "Did you push yourself to be great today? If you didn't do it, you lost today. We don't have many days to lose." Excellence isn't the goal - it's the standard you set. It's built in the details and how you compete.

A wise coach once said, "If you have to beg them to play, you will have to beg them to stay." You don't beg a Wolf to hunt... The Standard is the standard.

Dan Campbell said, " You can’t just say we’re going to believe and not put the work in." "I think the belief comes from the work you put in and doing all the little things right." Your self-belief comes from action. It comes from doing the work.

Sometimes...tradition is a bad thing. In Athletics & Education the phrase "Because we've always done it this way" can be very dangerous.

“The standard is the standard.” – Mike Tomlin 1. No excuses. 2. No shortcuts. 3. No compromise. The standard doesn’t adjust to you; you rise to meet it. Championship teams don’t just set standards. They live them, every day.

Show up. Show up again tomorrow. And the next day. Without questioning if it's even working. Because 99% of the time, people quit before the work has time to get results. Then they start something else and they quit too early again. And the ugly cycle repeats itself..
