You think your son playing football is dangerous? I’ll tell you what’s really dangerous: Your teenage son not being involved with an organization that works constantly to reinforce decision making, character, keeping grades up, and sacrifice for the good of the team.

Why is your coach so demanding of you? -They see something special in you -They have high expectations for you -They want you to create good habits -They want you to be successful -They care about you If your coach pushes you to be your best, don’t be annoyed, be appreciative!

Coaches if you allow your good players to get away with things you diminish the power of your words to the others in the group. Always hold the Alpha to an even higher standard than the others, because out of your sight they generally follow his lead.

My job, as a coach, is not to always make you feel good. But, it is my job to show you how great you are and hold you accountable to yourself by helping you maintain that standard every day. Keep grinding. Keep growing. Keep getting better.

I tell young coaches all the time: They don’t respect you at the bottom, they ignore you in the middle, and they hate you at the top. You’ll never have everyone’s approval. So it’s best to just focus on what you’re doing.

If you can't execute in practice you won't execute on game day. If you're not confident in practice you won't be confident on game day. If you're not focused in practice you won't be focused on game day. The habits you cultivate in practice will show up on game day.

If your son wants to play college ball but thinks his HS coaches are too hard on him, he probably doesn’t need to pursue a college career…it’s an entirely different level of urgency and intensity. Being coached hard isn’t for everyone and that’s ok. It’s ok to just be a fan.
