This is absolutely bizarre! Requiring an 80% super majority on decisions would mean that both DUP & SF would be able to block any decisions, as they both have over 20% of the Council. This is exactly why we need reform, it doesn’t work in Stormont and it won’t work in Councils.
Northern Ireland's councils could "grind to a halt" if a Stormont minister's view on a cross-community voting procedure is implemented, councillors have warned. https://t.co/NS8BtIZc7G

As leader of the Alliance Party, I have written to the SoS outlining the case for urgent reform of Stormont’s power-sharing institutions in the wake of the Covid Inquiry findings. “The institutions must be reformed to stop any single party from paralysing decision-making.”

Giving division a facelift cannot be the height of our ambition, say @NualaMcAllister and @CllrSamNel. The 'peace wall' in Alexandra Park has divided the community for longer than the Berlin Wall stood, and with funding secured for redevelopment, now's the time to tear it down.

The first two episodes of this new podcast are hard to listen to. Utterly depressing at times, actually. Round & round in circles of blame & shame. I was looking forward to it. I hoped for better. But instead we have another initiative that focuses on what divides us.
Borderland - UK or United Ireland? New podcast from @csbuckler, with @gildernewm and Ian Paisley It asks the hard questions about a future poll on Irish unity And it gets some explosive answers Listen on @BBCSounds 🔗 https://t.co/TjAanTpnzP

A cracking day to be out delivering Oldpark Survey Cards in Ardoyne. 1600 delivered in a matter of hours 🙏 We had to remind a few there’s no planned election for a couple of years, but that we’re interested to know how we can help all year, every year, not just election time.

Delighted that it looks as though the Executive will agree the bid for £5m I submitted to assist the PSNI with the costs of the past week's unrest. It’s a good start but long-term investment is required.
🚨 BREAKING: First Minister says PSNI is overstretched, with Executive to propose a £5 million funding boost to tackle riots and racist attacks. ⁉️Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 asked First Minister @moneillsf and deputy First Minister @little_pengelly whether the PSNI has the

2025 is shaping up to be the "year of AI agents". We've put together a list of startup ideas that we think are especially promising— some draw attention to trends that are already in full swing, and some of them are where we think things are going next. https://t.co/AbQWcpKCZX

Today North Belfast Alliance volunteers were out at Glenbank Drive, Ligoniel Road and Crumlin Road for an Oldpark Community Action Day. It’s great to see such a visible difference everytime this team tackles a street.

Today, DUP Education Minister Paul Givan blocked two North Down schools from becoming integrated despite a majority of parents voting in favour. Integrated education is a cornerstone of the united community we're trying to build. The minister must urgently explain his decision.

It was a real pleasure attending the Lord Lieutenant’s Carol Service at St Matthew’s Church, Shankill Rd. A beautiful, dog-friendly church. The @1stOldBoys and North Belfast Youth Choir made it extra Christmassy. Thank you to Rev Tracey McRoberts for the kind invitation.
