The gemstone industry is not growing as expected because those into value addition are fixated towards the International market whilst ignoring the potential 2million local consumers. Serve the local market first @MineralsMarket1 @zawima_org @MinersZmf @zela

Shafts in low lying areas or trenches are encouraged to build a collar set at the shaft entrance to improve safety, avoid sippage or flooding from rainwater. Look out for any underground signs of cracks developing; any signs of sedimentation or erosion near your shafts. BE SAFE!
Avoid mining in areas with high water tables or near water https://t.co/0IlbnTf07N cautious of unstable ground & potential landslides. Check for water pooling around your shaft. Ensure safety equipment & emergency response plans are in place. Make trenches to divert waterflow

Every rain season continually check if the shades steady enough to withstand heavy rainfall and wind; is the mining area is not prone to flooding or landslides; adequate drainage systems to prevent water accumulation - do not compromise the safety of people and the environment.
While there isn't a blanket stoppage of mining activities, miners are encouraged to take extreme safety precautions. If the shafts are covered with sheds one may continue mining, but it's essential to inspect and make sure it is safe for underground operations @MinersZmf @in

Shafts on a high rise are safer than those in water ways or low lying areas. DO NOT MINE IN WATERWAYS you risk flooding. Avoid sinking shafts too close, keep a 10m distance @mukasiri @ShamisoMtisi @MinistryMines @ZimWomenMining @UN_Women

Small scale miners are encouraged to exercise extreme caution during the rainy season unlike large mines whose shafts are properly sunk and supported with roof support enough to withstand any pressures risking collapse @ZimWomenMining @WIM_UK @CANZIM11 @EMAeep @gre

Local authorities must be fined for failure to clear roadside side drainages @EMAeep need to enforce this with the support of @ParliamentZim should enact this, hold LAs accountable
The City of #Harare, and all cities in #Zimbabwe, must clear roadside drainage systems at least twice a year, especially before and after the rains. But we can't ignore the role of residents in these floods. Many dump rubbish into drain inletsāvendors included.

Miners are guilty of damaging forests. Cutting trees for shaft support is a necessary evil. Join @ZimWomenMining in restoring the environment by planting 365 trees at your mine this year #Plant365 @EMAeep @CANZIM11 @Greenpeace @GreengrantsFund @nmutonhori @z

Most industrial minerals mining projects leave huge earth craters filled up as idle water bodies; if properly rehabilitated, may solve the water crisis in mining communities. Itstime we put resources towards mine reclamation @DanChurchAidZW @ZELA_Infor @MinistryMines @AIEL_Infor
