I was at a bar last weekend & a man asked me my age & what I was did for work. I said I was 25 & hopefully soon finishing up to be a doctor & match to residency. He said “25? Doctor? A doctorate of astrology doesn’t count, sweetheart”. Anyways here is my CaRMS photo lol

Honoured and privileged to be joining @MUNMed Psychiatry. I am so passionate about the province’s Mental Health & Addictions program, and I’m excited to stay at home with my “work family”. There’s truly no place I would rather be. Now to remember to sign “MD” instead of “RN” !!

My high school guidance counsellor talked me into going to university. I was happy slinging pizzas & coaching figure skating. She knew what mattered to me, and said “if you get a good job… you can help out your brother”. Suddenly, 8 years of studying and overtime are worth it ✨

I adopted Lucie at 6 years old. She had some troubles, one being her 100+ lb weight. We started running, both for her sake and mine. A healthier lifestyle was the intention, but she started to shed weight anyways. Today she joined the 60’s club at 69.2 lbs. I’m so proud of her 🥲

When ppl see us, they often say “wow, you’ve got your hands full” which is my (silly) pet peeve bc I assume they’re implying that I can’t handle 3 dogs. Today someone saw us & said “wow, you’ve got such a big family” & that warmed my heart 🥺 I do have a big family. I’m so lucky

Lucie has a primary lung cancer with mets. I’ll be bringing her home this evening and palliating her the best way I know: with ketchup chips and McDoubles. She doesn’t have much time, maybe a few days. The is the biggest, and greatest, part of me. My whole heart has left my body.

Lucie Darling Drover October 24th 2012 - February 24th 2024 Lucie heard her final rendition of “A Mother’s Love is a Blessing”, which I have sung to her hundreds of times, today at 1228. She passed peacefully away in my arms. I look forward to the day I see her again.

This is my fourth Christmas Day in a row working, I always volunteer because I don’t have kids or close family to celebrate with. But the mid-day sad feels always hit without fail!! (Don’t worry, I came prepared, brownies for lunch, this feeling will pass in 30 minutes). 😅

Lucie was at the vet today for minor complaints (being eleven is tough!) and is down to 64 pounds, from the 100+ that she started at when I adopted her 4.5 years ago. It might be time to start bulking her up 😅 we will keep walking and running as long as she still wants to 🏃🏻‍♀️🐶

Happy 2 year “Gotcha Day” to my littlest girl Josie. 3 dogs was easier than 2, mostly because Josie perfectly completed the trio. She fits seamlessly into our family. Of the dogs, she is the most cuddly and loveable. Life would not be the same without my lil lovebug 🐞💗

I think about this a lot. My close friend unexpectedly died. I coped poorly. Lucie was adamant that I cope well. Little did we know, she had terminal lung cancer herself. She stuck around 41 more days after this moment, long enough to get me back on my feet. We don’t deserve dogs

Lucie turned 11 this week! My sweet girl is as active as ever and is actually less than 3 km from beating the number of kilometres she ran/hiked/walked last year. We celebrated with a cake, long walk, extra special snacks, a chalkboard of her milestones and her birthday bandana🎂

I haven’t been to ortho surgery clinic in a year, since my last surgery block. Walked in today and several doctors recognized me & welcomed me back warmly. One doctor asked me how my brother was—did he make it through college, did it all turn out okay. It’s the little things 😢

Tildie has had to adapt to a lot in the last month: losing Lucie, becoming the oldest dog, and also learning to run. Lucie ran with me and so Tildie had to learn quickly to take her place. Yesterday was her first 10K. I’m extra proud of her. She has risen to every challenge.

People sometimes ask me how I walk 3 dogs, and the answer is *very* carefully lol. I try to convey I’m in control at all times — even though combined they weigh more than me and could pull me if they wanted to. Every walk is a training exercise. Anyways here’s the Girl Gang !!

I’m no dog trainer & not every walk is a winner (ask anyone who has witnessed me struggling at Bowring Park). But most of them are. Treats in hand + constant verbal training does the trick for us. AND keeping Tildie in the middle, using the other 2 as blinders. She’s the puller😂

Lucie has gotten weaker. Not keen on eating, even less keen on walking. I spoon fed her sardines and bacon for lunch. I think I’ve rocked her and sang “A Mother’s Love is a Blessing” 50x in the last 24 hours. It’s hard to believe she was running 2 weeks ago.

It’s been a hard day as Lucie has been sick, with an x-ray showing consolidation (best case is pneumonia, worst case is a mass). We’re treating her and hoping for the best. Her mood was definitely improved by the Valentine’s Day basket that came for her from Doggo’s Barkery 💝

This is an unpopular opinion but I don’t think docs should have voice/say in the practice model for NPs. NPs have their own profession, licensure, standards of practice. I would find it just as unusual if docs started voicing opinions on the pay model of ward clerks.

If your patient is admitted to the hospital, and they live alone, don’t forget to ask them if they have any pets/anyone to look after their animals. This is a huge source of stress for sick patients, who love their animal companions 🙏

I understand there is a lot of discourse around the future of NPs: FFS/bill MCP, vs. work under GP, etc. I don’t have an opinion. I just think educated adults with 2+ degrees should be able to make their own decision about their own practice model, & deal with the pros/cons of it

@CoozeJane Yes!! And I can’t speak for all, but in my time working @ SCMH I don’t know if I heard *anyone* say “oh my we desperately need a new SCMH”. Certainly not many people. Compared to how vocal RN/MDs are about better supports & wage. This seemed to come out of left field lol

You lost me at [nurses] “insist on writing every credential after their name? ie "BSN, DNP, CNS, ACNP" What are they trying to say - Are our credentials equal? Should we list all our academic achievements? Im not sure they would want to play that game” Wrong hill🤨🥴

@lorilydialove It might true. A friend of mine made more as an engineering student per hour on work terms 2015-2020 than they do as a working engineer 2020-2023. They makes $25.89 an hour as the chief engineer of their facility. It’s wild 🙃 many of their engineer friends are in the same boat

One odd thing about me is that I’m usually unbothered by anything at work, but if I think the unit is starting to go off the rails I subconsciously hum Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” under my breath until peace has been restored

NL's Health Minister agrees government can do more to retain family physicians, but so can the community themselves, stating, "You’d be amazed at the long-term effect that a small welcome basket for a new family coming from somewhere else has." ...

@LollyGagger22 @CBCNL I am very familiar with the department. You may not agree with or like the answer I’m providing, but you asked a question and I thought I’d provide you with an answer. If you’re wondering why you see a GP first, it is because that is how the standard ER operates. Hope that helps!
