Developing a sustainable culture at school starts with making small changes that you can maintain. At @KirkhillPS we started collecting aluminium cans and plastic bottles from the community and recycling them at @LidlGB stores in Glasgow.

But schools focused too much on only the academic performance of their pupils – those that lean too far into meritocratic values – leave space for the humiliation and degradation of many children. I’m glad I work at a school where we don’t leave that space.
