Two more celebrities inspired to become children's authors this week alone. I understand there are upsides in this for publishers, big booksellers and for encouraging reading in children, but it's not getting easier to make a living as a children's author if you're not a celeb.
This is one of the best things ever to happen to me. Thank you to
@CILIPCKG
,
@BarringtonStoke
,
@HolocaustLake
and countless others for helping to make me feel like I did a good job. Good luck, good health and well done to all the others longlisted.

Time to stand up for the teaching profession. I'm in touch with dozens of teachers and TAs and the ones I talk to are working their socks off, whilst feeling extremely frustrated they can't give children - who they care deeply about - what they need.

One winner will be drawn on June 6th, the 76th anniversary of that astonishing invasion of Nazi occupied Europe.

Celebrating 10 years since my first children's book was published tonight. Here's my stuff. I sanded, stained and varnished those floorboards too. But I can see they're a bit uneven, now I look at them. Damn.
A letter arrived this morning. From my night school English Literature teacher of 36 years ago. I had written to her recently to thank her for her important role in inspiring me become an author.
This such a fab idea. Children recommending books through their local bookshop. In at time when it's hard to compete with a fair few celebrity authors, this is a wonderful boost. Well done children, school, teachers and booksellers. Awesome.
If you’re around

town centre this summer, make sure you check out our Tidbury Green School book recommendations at

It's a year since 'After the War' was published and I want to say a big thanks to
#BookTwitter
for helping get the story of the Windermere Boys out there. Here's one of the Boys, Sir Ben Helfgott, with the book. Thank you, everyone.
I've done a video for
#WorldBookDay
next week. It also has a worksheet attached. The theme is book cover design. I do worry it is too long and a bit rambling, but, if it works for you, then please do use it.
On Tuesday I'm doing a Facebook Live session around reading and writing the Second World War. From my books D-Day Dog, Spitfire and After the War. I'll be taking questions, chatting and doing my first reading from After the War. Everyone welcome.

For some years I've asked teachers, TAs and librarians to nominate a child who would benefit greatly from the gift of a book at Christmas. My family and I would like to do the same for Christmas 2023.
You can find out what it's about here:
Thank you.
Every child, regardless of where they live, should have access to a well-stocked school library. But 1 in 7 UK primary schools do not have one. That’s why I am supporting the
