I'm not shocked at all. These are the beliefs of the Catholic Church. If you don't like them, don't be a member. If you are a member, these are the beliefs you sign up to. Pretty straightforward.
@WithingtonRed
@ManUtd
Loyalty has zero value. I'm not sure why ppl don't understand that. I'm even more confused when ppl think it's more valuable than anything else.
United sell seats. That's it. If you don't pay, there's a queue of ppl who will.
The 28 years only means something to you, not them.
@WithingtonRed
@ManUtd
I'm not trying to be awful there. Just pointing out the reality of business. United is a business and loyalty has no value. In many respects, loyalty gets you worse deals. That's why discounts apply to "new customers only" a lot of times.
Found out from my U16 daughter that her camogie coaches are using subs in training... so during the game in training, players are standing on the sideline. Looking. Watching their friends play. Not playing. She's 15.
Please explain why a coach would do this. Make it make sense.
@extra_sobriquet
@jthomsonPHIL
Why would we replace non-soluble plastic with non-soluble paper.
The ones in
@McDonalds
are SO bad. The mouth feel is absolutely awful. Like drinking while your teacher screeches their nails across a chalk-board. We don't use them. Pasta straws are a bit better though.
Ref insight:
Controversial one perhaps. Gaelic Referees ARE VOLUNTEERS!!!
That €20 you give them for a match is to cover their expenses, of which there are a lot. Boots, gear, diesel, etc. I bought radios for €300, umpire coats cost me €200 recently.
Refs volunteer. Be kind.
@OurGameHQ
I see two players competing for the ball. Almost no contact. Where's the foul? I know he fell heavy... but that seems to be because of his jump rather than any foul on him. Am I misreading this?
@joncoopertweets
As an outsider... it baffles me how political your judicial appointments are and the impact your judiciary has on the interpretation of the law in the US. We don't have political judges in Ireland... just judges.
@aoifeallen00
Its a personal choice. Like your pink hair or dress from your profile. Probably not everyone's cup of tea but live and let live. Speaking personally, pink dresses do nothing for me... must be my hairy legs!
I like some of Sheerans stuff. Was at his concert last night.
Reffed a Camogie game today.
1st half: Girl A pulled on a leg in a ruck.
2nd half Girl A gets a belt on the leg (accidental). On ground. Crying. Sore.
Coach comes on:
You gave a bang, ya got a bang, ya know how it feels now. Get up and get on with it.
Gotta ❤️ some coaches! 🤣

I think she comes across quite well. Quite articulate about her points. I don't agree with her style of protest, but it's certainly effective (we are talking about it). Mission accomplished for her.
@reptracker
This is actually hilarious!
Q: Why are you so committed to Ireland?
A: I'm Irish.
Like, would they ask a French, German or Spanish player that question????

Really, this is just silly. The hatred some ppl have for other humans is beyond me.
Little britainers were content to pillage an empire but don't want to accommodate even their fair share of the ppl the regimes they left behind displace.
#GAARefRespect
I had people on a sideline today, tell me I had played way more time than needed. Told me they had timed it themselves! Did you stop it for injuries, substitutions, cautions? Coz I did and I played 5 seconds more than the 30.
Let the ref do their job!!
@Belahaha
@t_sfea
This is a bizarre leap. Homework teaches you none of those things. The correct time to learn those things is when you need them... ie in secondary school and university.
I had the pleasure of refereeing

After the game, they asked to have a photo with the ref as a mark of their respect. Beautiful gesture.

Don't apologise for me. Or our generation. You can only speak for yourself. Immeasurable? Irreversible?? Come on now. Times were tough, there was a global pandemic. We all made sacrifices. We are out the other side now.
@ESPNCFB
There is no skill in this. A blindside hit of a basically defenceless player. A bit pathetic really. Kudos to the receiver for holding onto the ball. That's the real play here.
16-y-o daughter came back from reffing a
@CamogieDublin
game today. Upset.
U13, Div8. Not the All Ireland. Told me coaches and parents on one side continually tried to ref the game for her. STEPS! CHOP! WIDE! Constantly questioning her decisions.
A few stern words with sons new soccer coach today. He's 8. Left on the sidelines for too long despite only 6 players in 5-a-side. Coach started BSing me saying everyone was getting the same playing time which was patently untrue. Words were definitely exchanged. 💣
Overheard the coach of a 10 year old girls team my young lassie was playing against giving his pre-game instructions. So calm, attentive to his team, listened, answered questions. Then - Go out and enjoy yourselves.
He has created a lovely environment for those kids. Fabulous.

Lots of people do business with folks in the US. It's actually a very real issue.

That's off the top of my head. GAA also produces fantastic domestic athletes. We punch way above our weight in athletic terms.

Message from an Unknown Coach
Today I heard a comment made about me behind my back, I started to turn around and look but decided better of it, I know I make mistakes.....
@DanielHussey2
Great officiating by the ref and his team. They got one look at it, at match speed, in a highly congested space. And I think they got the decision bang on. Shoulder to the head. Behaving in a manner dangerous to an opponent. 🟥
Cheap shot. No place in the game for it.
@thegaeliccorner
I think he realises and doesn't catch it... therefore, the 2nd 'bounce' was not a bounce... he dropped it and then toe-tapped it back to himself. Incredible awareness.
Ref insight:
If one of your players is constantly roaring STEPS or shouting for frees during the game, don't be surprised if s/he gets a 🟨.
Constantly trying to ref the game undermines the authority of the referee - a 🟨 offence!
I have given cards for exactly this.
@DLynchSport
I don't like this hate towards Vera P. at all. A highly successful coach who brought IWT to their first EVER world cup and played well against some of the top teams in the world. Its a life's work for her, let her celebrate it. Im delighted to came to Ireland and helped lead us.

As others have pointed out, repeat customers spend less. The game is all about new. That's why most offers & discounts are for new customers only.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But don't attack me for stating the truth, please.
@paddycosgrave
I went to Web summit in Dublin several years ago. Very expensive tickets. Desperate ppl trying to hawk their web applications in a cold, soulless hall. Crappie on-stage discussions where so many were just going through the motions. Virtually no value in it.
Never went back.
@LilevjenSpecial
@courtenayrogers
Not really. Do you trust a man who has consistently lied and already had 15 boxes of classified materials repossessed.
Or do you trust an agency that is responsible for your nations security?
No other POTUS would have or has willfully mishandled classified documents.
@AnalysisGaa
That is absolutely savage stuff. Physical without fouling. Every ball contested. I'm exhausted looking at it!! Brilliant play from both teams.
@AnalysisGaa
@BoyneJack
Really interesting, Ray. He takes 5 steps while the ball is in the air, changes direction as he catches it (who does that????!) then bounces it almost immediately (on 2 steps). He knows he's going into contact and wants the steps available to evade. As it happens, he's tripped.
@TrainorChris
1 - I haven't dug anyone out on SM. You literally don't know who I am talking about.
2 - we've spoken with this coach b4. We can't fix this with him.
3 - volunteering doesn't give ppl the right to treat kids poorly. Any coaching material at this age focuses on inclusion.

Had a ref for an U13 game on Tuesday. Absolutely fantastic. Spoke with the players right through the game. Clear, kept up with the game, took no nonsense. Spoke with him after to congratulate him on a brilliant game.
Best ref I have ever come across. Top class.
@OurGameHQ
No strike. He pushed him. Ref gave what he gave but i think its harsh. Very poor from the Derry player diving as he did. He threw a punch to the gut of an opponent (Fenton). Embarrassing stuff from him to be honest.
Met the wonderful Larry McCarthy, President of the GAA, at the Monica's v Raheny Junior hurling match I was refereeing this afternoon. No crowds. No fanfare. Just a GAA fan out seeing games. Our future is in great hands.

A thread on making sure you listen to your players (and their parents) and that fun is the number 1 thing to think about in sports.
Kids really don't care what division they are in. They want to play with their mates and have fun. They want to play. THEY WANT TO PLAY!!!
So my eldest took a figary to write her Leaving Cert history project a year early and submit it as part of the inaugural DCU History in your hands awards. She only went and won it! Published author at 17.
I taught her everything I know, of course. 🤣
@DCU
@PremierviewPod
This is brilliant officiating. Lino is in a perfect position, immediately signals the foul. Ref knew the rules and applied them. Could have fudged it by issuing a 🟨 for careless use of the hurley but went with the correct decision. Top class officiating. Well done. 👏👏👏
Spoke (nicely!) with a ref after our U13 game tonight. Lots of frees given against us but no explanation from the ref. I really feel we have a duty as refs to explain our decisions. Particularly when marginal. They had no ability to adjust. Very frustrating for the boys.
@TheDublinJenn
Depends on the age. Secondary school is impossible to avoid. I still have 3 in primary and never check their homework. Sometimes they do it. Most times they don't. Never been a problem. I don't get parents who obsess over it tbh.

Ppl in the photograph all shouting 'cheese'... then the photographer gets hit with a lump of cheese. The photographed were trying to warm him about the impending cheese bit he ignored them....
Unfortunately, this type of abuse (and it is abuse) happens at all levels of the game. It undermines the authority of the referee and seeps onto the pitch making it much harder to control the game.
Referee abuse in all its forms needs to stop.
Let the ref do their job.
@SmallerFishGAA
I couldn't believe it... I thought he had a great game. Not sure it was Dublin fans tbh. But any booing of the ref like that is absolutely ridiculous. Certainly one of the best refs in the country and clearly has the respect of the players.
@CallMeSteve___O
Do you refer to everyone else by what they do?
Hi plumber John
Hey electrician Fred
Why put Coach in front of their name?
In my experience, 'Coach' is used when you don't know the person's name. Eg when I referee a game I often say hello Coach bcoz I don't know their name yet.
Ref insight:
Despite some believing otherwise, Refs work hard to stay on top of the rules. I read the rules before pretty much every game. I get probably 90% of my decisions right. We do try our best. Sure, we won't get them all correct but allow us to be human!
Delighted to graduate from the Peter Downey National Camogie referee academy at Croke Park today. Thanks to all who helped me over the past year. Might see you at your county game next year.

Maybe so... but teams don't let one man carry the disappointment on his own. They ALL contributed to the scoreline over 80 minutes. Not just him at the end.
In the GAA Blitz debate there's a belief that b/c there is no cup, the games are somehow non-competitive. My 7, 8 and 11 year olds all played
#gogames
this weekend. All games were competitive and the kids competed. But nobody cared about a cup. It's a false equivalance.

Some do, some dont. Personally, I don't think so. I didn't ask my wife to (she did anyway). Same question if your wife was vegan. Are you now vegan?

The

It lashed rain during the game but both teams were really impressive in difficult conditions.
@GAAKeeperCoach
Totally different game models. One is a chaotic field invasion game (GAA), the other a HIGHLY structured field invasion game (NFL). Longest plays in NFL are 15secs. All set plays. GAA is free flowing, largely unscripted. Preworked tactics v decision making in the game.
