🌳🧬1/ Forests face escalating threats from pathogens due to climate change & global trade. Yet forest pathology lags behind crop science in understanding microbe-host dynamics at the molecular level. Why? We lack the model systems that revolutionized plant pathology.

Today is @C_Caseys using one pathogen as a lens to understand how plant defense evolves across species. I mean what sounds easier than measuring ~100 pathogen isolates virulence across ~100 plant genotypes from 8 different species

Many people have no idea how these things work. For example, right now, as a Brazilian, I can't accept invitations to speak at conferences in Europe because my visa to work in the U.S. has expired. I am not illegal; I have a work contract with the University of California until
This is a reminder that international scientists face various hurdles and citizenship in some countries is worse than others. I had 2 students miss 4-6 weeks this year JUST to renew their visas (India and China). (have to admit that global south was confusing, coming from NZ)

This is the nightmare becoming reality
Well, it happened. I am reviewing a paper that is 100% plagiarized from my work. 🔥🔥 not 100% like "I'm certain it's plagiarized", but 100% like "every figure is from my public GitHub repo linked in the paper they are copying". Editor friends - how does one review this?

An undergrad driven manuscript is out. We have a set of papers that started in our undergrad lab meeting when a student asked "What happens if we change X that we always do?". They asked what happens if we change the leaf surface being infected?
