One of our Officers found this guy on Old Santa Cruz Hwy yesterday, south of Bear Creek Rd. We handed him off to Santa Clara County Animal Control, who took him to the Animal Shelter in Hollister.
I-280 is being shut down in both directions due to a potential jumper on the Meridian Ave over cross. NB traffic will be diverted to Bascom and SB traffic to SR-17. Officers are currently on scene and working to safely resolve the issue

This afternoon at approximately 12:34, a CHP San Jose Area Officer was clearing a crash on SR-17 NB, NO Redwood Estates when a vehicle traveling NB lost control and veered off the road, striking the Officer and vehicle. SR-17 NB is shut down at Summit Rd.
Yesterday, SB 101 was shut down for several hours when a man jumped from the 10th St overcrossing and died. Today, this message hangs in the same location as a reminder to us all. If you need help or know someone who needs help, please speak up and seek assistance

While the speed limit for passenger vehicles on SR-17 is 50 MPH, that drops to 35 MPH for commercial trucks. There were a few today who had to be reminded the hard way
Damage from the recent storm is still having an effect on the roadways. Both directions of SR-17 are closed between Redwood a estates and Summit Rd due to a tree hanging over the Highway. Crews and Officers are on scene working to clear the tree
Our Officers were out over the weekend, enforcing speeding violations, and other forms of unsafe driving. We remain committed to the safety of all Californians, and remind everyone to slow down, obey the speed limit, and put away the distractions behind the wheel!
We are responding to multiple collisions this morning involving spin outs, overturns, and vehicles off the roadway. All of these occur when a vehicle is traveling too fast, especially when the roads are wet. Slow down today and give yourself extra time.

More than 80 cadets who will graduate from the CHP Academy this Friday participated in a pre-dawn run this morning. The 5-mi run, from the CHP Academy to the California Peace Officers’ Memorial is a way for the cadets to recognize the ultimate sacrifice of law enforcement heroes.

This morning, a driver was arrested for DUI after going through the guardrail and fence on NB 17 south of The Cats. Luckily, nobody was injured in this collision. Personnel are on scene working to repair the damage. The right lane is closed causing NB delays

January 7th was the 20th anniversary of the untimely loss of San Jose CHP Officer Scott Greenly who was struck by a speeding vehicle on the shoulder of SR-85. We remember Officer Greenly and his family and honor his ultimate sacrifice.
The number 2 lane of SR-17 NB at Alma Bridge Rd. is closed after a box truck collided with a school bus and CHP patrol vehicle. There were no injuries, personnel are on scene working to clear the lane.

We are on scene and investigating a collision on SR 17 southbound north of Bear Creek Rd. Sadly, one of the involved drivers sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. SB 17 lanes are shut down and being diverted at SR 9. Currently, we do not have an ETO
This morning, a large crane traveling west on 237 lost control, went over the guardrail and overturned on the eastbound lanes. We are currently working to get the scene cleared and get lanes open, but 237 is currently closed in both directions.
The San Jose Area hopes that everyone enjoys the Super Bowl. We ask that you designate a sober driver today. CHP Officers will be out enforcing both alcohol and drug DUI laws. There will be ZERO tolerance for driving under the influence.

The ramps to Bird Ave and SR-87 from I-280 SB are closed due to an issue with the water pumps resulting in flooding. CalTrans personnel are on scene and working to fix the issue. Plan accordingly and anticipate potential delays
