BREAKING: The Texas House just killed Greg Abbott’s voucher scam!
A bipartisan majority stood strong for our neighborhood schools to support students, teachers, and Texas families.
Our message is clear: voucher scams have no place in our state.
We did it! Vouchers are dead… again.
The pro-public education coalition in the Texas House has defeated Abbott’s latest voucher scam.
This is a huge win for Texas students, teachers, and our neighborhood schools!
Make no mistake—I read HB 6, every version of it. HB 6 will disenfranchise Texas voters while criminalizing simple mistakes and making it harder to put on elections. The SOS told us our election in 2020 was a success, was smooth and secure. It’s not time to go backwards.
#txlege
Cheering on our next Governor of Texas,
@BetoORourke
! We deserve someone who will fight for us and put our families first. This is the most important election of our lifetime and it’s gonna take all of us!
#TXDems22
The 5th Circuit Court just blocked Texas’ book ban because it violates the first amendment.
Book banning has no place in our state.
This is a huge win for free speech, Texas students, and local librarians.

Today is a dark day in Texas history.
The Texas Senate just voted to acquit corrupt Attorney General Ken Paxton on 16 separate articles of impeachment.
I’ll keep fighting for the Texas we deserve.
#txlege
Today I joined with my
@TexasHDC
colleagues in taking bold action to combat voter suppression in Texas. We broke quorum and are headed to DC to demand Congress act and pass the For The People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. The freedom to vote is non negotiable.
#txlege
Tonight I joined
@TexasHDC
in breaking quorum to kill
#SB7
. This is a time honored parliamentary procedure. SB 7 is the most egregious voter suppression bill in modern Texas history. We will not go backwards and make it harder for Texans to exercise their freedom to vote.

.
@GovAbbott
just turned down $350 million in federal funding to help feed hungry Texas kids.
With inflation & long delays for SNAP benefits, it’s criminal that we would turn down money to help solve this crisis.
The Governor needs to stop playing politics with our kids’ lives.
The Austin Delegation just held a press conference denouncing
@GovAbbott
's voucher scams.
He’s attacked our teachers, he’s targeted our libraries, & now he’s coming for our neighborhood schools.
We will stand strong for our public schools because Texas kids deserve better.
Breaking: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has announced the agenda for the special legislative session that begins July 8. The agenda has 11 items, including:

—Limiting access to sports teams for transgender students

The government should never censor what our students learn and think.

Our corrupt Attorney General, Ken Paxton, just settled a felony fraud case.
As part of the deal to avoid jail time, he has to take 15 hours of legal ethics education.

We just spent 24 hours fighting House Bill 3, which was passed out of committee on party lines. I want to thank every witness who made their voice heard. The fight goes on!

BREAKING: A Texas appeals court just acquitted Crystal Mason!
She had been sentenced to 5 years in prison over a simple voting error.
We will never give up our fight for justice.
There is no certification process for poll watchers in Texas. There is no training or knowledge of election law required. They are appointed by candidates and political parties for partisan purposes.
Know the law. Read the bills.

For decades, TX foster kids were only given a trash bag to pack up their lives when they were removed from their homes.
Last session, I passed “Bags of Love” to ensure that all foster kids at least have a backpack to call their own.
Our foster kids deserve dignity and respect.

BIG NEWS: A federal judge just ruled that SB 12—Texas’ ban on drag—is unconstitutional!
This is a major win for our LGBTQIA+ neighbors and anyone who loves Texas drag!
There’s no place for hate in our state.
I was proud to stand with my colleagues at a press conference against
@GovAbbott
’s voucher scams this morning.
The Governor and his billionaire mega-donors will stop at nothing to defund and dismantle our neighborhood schools.
But we won't let them get away with it.
Texas is ground zero in the war on democracy.
Soon, TX will withdraw from the Electronic Registration Information Center—which ensures our voter rolls are updated and secure.
The GOP will stop at nothing to pander to conspiracies instead of protecting the right to vote.
.
@GovAbbott
just ended a 4th special session without giving any money to our neighborhood schools.
❌$0 for students.
❌$0 for teachers.
❌$0 for schools.
He doesn’t care about our kids — and they deserve better. It’s time to FULLY FUND our public schools.
.
@GovAbbott
called lawmakers back for a FOURTH special session.
Specials are supposed to be used in extraordinary circumstances — not to push an extreme partisan agenda that hurts Texans.
The Governor is wasting our time and your money — setting a dangerous precedent for Texas.
BREAKING: 4 million+ Texans have registered to vote online while updating their driver licenses.
This is a huge milestone for our state & the system is working “without complication.”
But it’s time to allow EVERY Texan to register to vote or update their registration online.
I’ve officially filed for re-election!
I’m honored to serve our community as State Representative and am ready to continue fighting for our families and values.
We’ve accomplished a lot, but there’s still so much work to do to make Texas as good as its promise. Let’s do this!
.
@GregAbbott_TX
would rather defund our public schools than make them the envy of the world.
Instead of wasting time on voucher scams, we need to raise the basic allotment, give our teachers a raise, & invest in mental health and special education.
Our students deserve better.
Special Session
#3
of the Texas Legislature will begin Monday, October 9th at 1:00 PM.
Now is the time for Texas to deliver school choice for every family, protect Texans and Americans against Biden’s border crisis, and ban all COVID vaccine mandates.
Let's get to work.
Nearly 1 MILLION Texans have lost Medicaid in the past few months—most of them are children.
Now they’re kicking off significant numbers of pregnant women, preventing them from receiving the healthcare they need.
So much for family values…
Over 1,000,000 Texans have registered to vote online since a federal court ordered DPS to offer OVR simultaneously as part of driver license transactions last Sept. Let’s modernize our elections and allow every Texas voter to register or update their registration online.
#txlege
Over the weekend, TX settled w/ voters/voting rights groups that sued over the state's violation of the National Voter Registration Act.
They forced the creation of online voter reg for people renewing driver's licenses online. Since Sept, 1M voters have used the option.

We’ll never stop fighting to ensure abortion and the full range of reproductive healthcare is accessible and affordable for every Texan. I’m proud to have sponsored today’s

BREAKING: North Carolina just announced they’re expanding Medicaid.
This means that more than 600,000 North Carolinians will have access to the lifesaving healthcare they deserve.
Texas must be next—it’s past time to get this done!
I’m running for governor.
Together, we can push past the small and divisive politics that we see in Texas today — and get back to the big, bold vision that used to define Texas. A Texas big enough for all of us.
Join us:
It’s New Years Eve and liquor stores across Texas are closed because of old-fashioned liquor laws.
It’s time to change that.
For the past 2 legislative sessions, I’ve filed a bill to allow local communities to permit liquor sales on Sundays.
#txlege
We sent a bi-partisan letter to Gov. Abbott asking him to add Medicaid expansion to the upcoming special session. It's time to bring our tax dollars home to help 1.4M working Texans have access to healthcare, lower all of our insurance costs, and save lives.

@CollierForTexas
, and
@RochelleMGarza

The
#txlege
is about to hear House Bill 3, the latest voter suppression bill. Instead of making it harder to vote and criminalizing honest mistakes, we should modernize our elections by implementing online voter registration.
Here’s the thing -- some Texans can already do this.
Last year, over 2 MILLION Texans were kicked off of Medicaid — including 1.4 million children.
Our state is in a healthcare crisis of our own making.
This is more than just a failure of leadership. This is a moral failure.
Today I filed my first bills for the 87th Legislative session: to expand Medicaid and to allow any Texan to cast their ballot by mail. (1/4)

Some info getting buried in voter registration mess is that Texans can now update their name or address online if they were *already registered* to vote in Texas, even if moved to a new county.

.
@GovAbbott
needs to stop playing politics with Texas schools.
LISD followed internal and state policies and ensured students got the constitutions.
But facts don’t matter when you just want to score cheap political points—as state leaders we must do better.
Leander ISD refused to distribute free copies of the Constitution to students.
They said it was against their policies of maintaining neutrality on political or religious issues.
That’s outrageous.
EVERY school should teach the Constitution.

Wonderful meeting with Rev. Barber this morning as he reminded us why we must pass the

Having watched the hearing, reviewed the transcript of witness testimony, and weighed debate, I joined my colleagues in voting to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton. The vote was 121-23, an overwhelming, bipartisan majority. Full statement below.

Texas just kicked 500,000 people off of Medicaid—most of them are kids.
Last session, I filed H.B. 1599 to ensure this wouldn't happen, but
@DanPatrick
refused to let it out of the Senate. Now we’re seeing the consequences.
Texas kids deserve better.
Republicans are trying to ban COVID vaccine mandates in Texas.
They say their legislation is pro-business, pro-science, and pro-economy—but as a small business owner, I know they’re lying.
This legislation sets a dangerous precedent for Texas businesses moving forward.
Let’s tell the truth. Texas already has some of the strictest Voter ID laws in the country. That’s not what these bills would do. They’d increase partisan influence in elections, restrict early voting, add barriers for voters with disabilities, and create new crimes.
#txlege
He's referring to voter ID. Republican controlled states tend to require an ID to vote, just as photo ID is required to check into a hotel, fly on an airplane, buy alcohol, and attend certain events. You know, everything they just did to get to D.C.
Tonight the US Congress passed the
#JohnLewisVotingRightsAct
. This is a historic moment and a major milestone. I’m proud of the role Texas House Democrats played in lighting this fire. Now the Senate must act!
Our tax dollars pay for other states’ Medicaid expansion — giving their residents access to care, creating jobs, and lowering healthcare costs.
Nearly 70% of Texans want
#MedEx4TX
. No good reason to keep refusing to do the right thing.

#SickOfItTX
If you measure a society by how it treats its children, then Greg Abbott’s Texas is a massive failure.
Instead of supporting the next generation of Texans, we’re forcibly removing their healthcare access.
Texas kids deserve better.
“At 17 months, every month they’re a new person, and I really didn’t want to be away that long,” Bucy added, noting that Molly is also 27 weeks pregnant. “So she brought her laptop along with the diaper bag, and we’ll do the best we can.”

New:
@GovAbbott
has called a special
#txlege
session starting July 8.
"Agenda items will be announced prior to the convening of the special session," his office says.
While
@GovAbbott
is pushing extreme legislation, I’m championing 4 bills to solve real issues:
✅Expand Medicaid
✅Give retired state employees a COLA
✅Help kids access healthcare
✅Implement online voter registration
Texans deserve leaders that fix problems—not create them.
Three weeks ago the Secretary of State’s office told us the 2020 election in Texas was a success, and was smooth and secure.
These activists are right. We need to suppress the virus, not the vote!

Let’s be clear. We’ve been voting by mail in Texas for 100+ years.
We have safeguards and security measures in place.
This is reliable, secure, & critical for seniors, military, oil rig workers & ppl who travel for work, and ppl w/ disabilities to make voices heard.

No more masks or restrictions, but Texas has the worst uninsured rate in the country, a growing physician shortage, and leads the nation in rural hospital closures.

With the

But our democracy is still under attack.
