Our hearts are heavy: The Texas Hill Country flooding has led to the tragic loss of at least 90 lives with others still missing. Texans will continue to show up for one another as we rebuild our homes, communities, and lives.

NEW: The Fifth Circuit upheld a block on Texas’ extreme anti-immigrant law, S.B. 4 — a cruel attempt to override the federal government’s authority over immigration enforcement. S.B. 4 is unconstitutional. Immigrants belong here.

BREAKING: A federal court blocked Trump’s latest attempt to completely shut down asylum at the border. The court rejected the administration’s attempt to justify mass deportations and reaffirmed that the right to seek asylum is protected by U.S. law.

NEW: Texas lawmakers passed a bill that limits free speech at public colleges and universities. S.B. 2972 opens the door to censoring viewpoints, suppressing student organizing, and silencing public participation in our democracy.

BREAKING: Texas politicians passed a bill that forces sheriffs to partner with ICE in support of the Trump regime’s shameful mass deportation efforts. S.B. 8 will divert limited law enforcement resources while driving victims and witnesses of crime into the shadows.

BREAKING: State lawmakers passed a bill that bans diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and endangers LGBTQIA+ students in Texas public schools. S.B. 12 isn’t about improving education — it’s about controlling it to enforce a narrow vision of who belongs in our state.

BREAKING: Texas lawmakers passed a bill that bans broad categories of books in public school libraries and puts school boards — instead of trained librarians — in charge of deciding what students can read. S.B. 13 is unconstitutional and leaves Texas students at a disadvantage.

BREAKING: Texas lawmakers passed S.B. 37, which dramatically increases state control of public universities. Allowing politically appointed bureaucrats to police curricula and override faculty expertise is a direct threat to academic freedom in Texas.

BREAKING: Lawmakers passed a bill that prohibits the sale and lease of land in Texas to people and companies from China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia. S.B. 17 is textbook discrimination.

BREAKING: A bill requiring public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments is on its way to the governor's desk. If Gov. Abbott signs #SB10 into law, we will sue. Students and families should decide how to practice faith, not the government. Full stop.

NEW: Texas politicians passed a bill that defines sex based on the ability to reproduce and requires state agencies to identify Texans as “male” or “female” on government records. H.B. 229 is a cruel attempt to erase trans, nonbinary, and intersex Texans from public life.

SJR 87 would automatically jail Texans before trial based on certain past convictions or charges — without a judge’s approval or weighing the facts. This is how innocent people get locked up. Tell lawmakers: NO on SJR 87. #txlege

Texas lawmakers just approved a bill banning cities and counties from helping residents cover travel, lodging, and meals when seeking abortion care out of state. S.B. 33 shuts down popular, voter-supported programs — gutting vital support and silencing the will of the people.
