This is brilliant. Twitter-verse, please add other examples. At heart… “Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are all noble pursuits and neccessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.” from Dead Poets Society (1989)
Re English degrees - as a student Katherine Rundell read Donne's most difficult poem. It gave her an idea for a children's book. Yesterday Disney announced a monster deal for that book. So that English degree will soon create and sustain thousands of highly skilled UK jobs.

I often get asked why, as a serious academic I write so many children’s book. Well not only would I be left with an empty lecture theatre in ten years if I DON’T try and sow a passion for the past in the next generation, but I also get letters like this 🥲🥲🥲

Excellent day at @OpenUniversity for the Reading For Pleasure conference. My highlight being @RobBiddulph reading his book 'I Follow the Fox' 🥹 As always, a super inspirational talk by @TeresaCremin and it was great to hear about @a_reflective and her journey to being an author!

Earlier today I did a show for 500 children (Year 1 and Year 2 and Reception) at Cheltenham Literary Festival (@CheltLitFest ) We read 'Oh Dear Look What I Got' together off a giant screen and I taught the children several poems which we recited together. Fun. Very good fun.

Did I meet THE @stormzy today in the middle of Putney today? Yes, yes I did. Did I scream ‘Come to the library’ and slide into his DM’s begging him to come to York Gardens Library? Yes, yes, of course I did. GTL The Grind 😂 London is a magic I’ve never known before. 🖤✨🙏🏻

There's a child in my class who won't read during reading time. Each day, I've 'accidentally' left a book on her desk. She normally has a quick flick through then discards it. Yesterday, it was Rhythm and Poetry by @KarlNova. She read for twenty minutes then put it in her tray.

What a thrill to watch your child take their first steps. But I want to spotlight something else about this video (shared on IG by sean.nicol): the sheer perfection of the support system created by its adults. They teach us a lesson about learning that extends far beyond

Speaking at the House of Lords yesterday for the official launch of the Disability Trading Framework was a real milestone moment. Not only for me personally, but for the wider movement toward inclusive and accessible entrepreneurship in the UK. Huge congratulations to Michelle

Amazing things happen when lap reading is introduced as a joyful part of your baby’s daily routine. This little one (12 months), shared to TT by mamaofcutehapas, has spent enough time reading with his parents that he’s already showing off all he’s learned as part of his

The British pediatrician D. W. Winnicott once wrote, “There’s no such thing as a baby. There is a baby and someone.” I’ve always loved the quote, because it so simply encapsulates our situation as the newest members of the human species: We enter the world with fine tuned powers

Relative child poverty has remained stubbornly high over the last twenty years and has risen over the past decade. Without action, levels will soon break records. Scrapping the two-child limit in full would be the most targeted and cost-effective way of reducing child poverty.

The disability employment rate has not improved since 2019. Why is that? There are so many disabled people who can and want to work but face barriers to employment. Such as the negative attitudes of employers and a lack of flexibility.

I can’t emphasize enough how much accessibility benefits everyone. Ramps, elevators, ventilated air, automatic doors. You caring about accessibility is caring about your future. You will become disabled unless you die young. Investing in disability is investing in yourself.

You can’t just “push through” a genetic disease. You can’t just “push through” a blood disorder. There’s many disabilities where no matter how hard you push, it won’t do any good and might actually make things worse. Stop telling disabled people to push through their disability.
