Today, I walked into a popular cosmetic shop in Nairobi at about 5pm. The sales lady told me I was the first client all afternoon. I have been patronising that shop for about 20 years. I've never seen those shelves so empty.
An increase in taxation has the unfortunate consequence of reducing consumer spending.
People look for ways of reducing consumption to fit into their budgets. This leads to a reduction in taxable revenue and low demand for goods and services.

I complained about this to a certain embassy that charges 70,000 for a student visa. My nephew had a University acceptance letter and had paid a year's fees in advance. Visa 70 k, medical 25k, English test 29k. All non refundable except the fees.
Our government needs to address visa denials. We can’t have embassies minting money from poor Kenyans. We must pass a law that unsuccessful visa applicants must get a percentage refund of the visa fees they pay to embassies. Our foreign policy must protect our dignity and money.
