Ward 1 Representative @DCSBOE. Teacher (NBCT) and Coach. Opinions are my own and retweets ≠ endorsements.

I testified before the DC Council calling for an end to the MPD and ICE partnership. Our city’s safety should never come at the expense of our immigrant neighbors’ dignity and peace of mind. We can keep D.C. safe without fear-based policing. #EndMPDICE #DCValues #OyeForDC

Cutting off SNAP benefits that thousands of DC residents depend on to feed their families is cruel, unjust & unnecessary. The federal government is choosing to let children & seniors go hungry. I am grateful to AG Schwalb for standing up to stop this unlawful action.
NEW: We just filed a lawsuit alongside 25 states to restore SNAP food assistance during the federal shutdown. 141,000 DC residents rely on SNAP to afford meals — including 47,000 children and 24,000 seniors. We will do everything we can to prevent DC families from going hungry.

Proud to see and support my colleague, Christopher Alberts, as he was named D.C Teacher of the Year Today!
THIS JUST IN: @MayorBowser just announced longtime @dcpublicschools Schools Without Walls teacher Christopher Alberts as the D.C. Teacher of the Year. The announcement, a surprise, came during a celebration of Walls' status as @USATODAY's #1 D.C. school. More to come.

It’s heartbreaking and concerning to hear our students talk about the pressures, fears, and injustices of ICE’s presence in DC. Thank you @DCSBOE for giving our students a space to discuss how this issue, amongst many other topics, is affecting the start of the school year.

Political violence has no place in our country. No matter who we are or what we believe, no one should fear being shot for their politics. My thoughts are with Charlie Kirk’s family in this horrifying moment.

The attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, vile, and reprehensible. In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form.

It's ghoulish to mock or justify the shooting of Charlie Kirk. Rising political violence is a horror of our time. Unchecked it will lead to catastrophes none of us want to imagine. Deeply hoping he pulls through. We are all people, whatever we believe. That has to come first.

This morning I stood with @freedcproject_ organizers, Council colleagues, and members of Congress to make clear that we want the surge of federal forces out of the District, NOW. This occupation is unnecessary, expensive, and dangerous and I am unequivocal: FREE DC.

We're under siege by our own fed govt. The military occupation of DC is unlawful, unwarranted, and unwelcome. Thank you AG Schwalb for your leadership. I stand united with you and all the residents fighting for a free DC, and I support you in your fight to protect our residents.
NEW: We are suing to block the unlawful deployment of National Guard troops to DC. Armed soldiers should not be policing American citizens on American soil. The forced military occupation of the District of Columbia violates our local autonomy and basic freedoms. It must end.

It’s a moral moment for DC. Washingtonians are being taken off the streets & charged with crimes that even grand juries won’t indict, residents are scared to leave home & workers scared to go to their jobs. All while they drag our city through the mud. This is wrong. Call it out.
We, as city leaders, should be unequivocal that the federal surge of officers in DC and deployment of national guardsmen on our streets are dangerous, unnecessary, and an affront to Home Rule. We ought to be real clear about that. Real clear.

DC is under siege by our own fed govt, w/ armed military patrolling our streets & masked agents scooping up neighbors & taking them away. Our residents are afraid, hesitant to go out & to work, angry that our limited autonomy is being eroded. There is nothing welcome about this.
We, as city leaders, should be unequivocal that the federal surge of officers in DC and deployment of national guardsmen on our streets are dangerous, unnecessary, and an affront to Home Rule. We ought to be real clear about that. Real clear.

Congrats to @SWWHSA senior Perry Pixley Chamberlain on becoming one of the State Board's four student reps for the 2025-2026 school year. Perry Pixley was sworn in this morning by State Board President @DC_Edvocate before her classmates in @BenWilliamsDC's DC history class.

I stand with @ZacharyforWard5 and many other city leaders in denouncing the federal surge of officers in DC. There are no 2 ways about this issue if you truly care about our due process rights, the rule of law, and the actual safety of our DC communities.

For folks not in DC: - There are full-on police checkpoints most nights - Gangs of 30+ federal agents roam DC - National Guard folks w/ guns patrolling a Harris Teeter - Every day, multiple friends see ICE kidnapping ppl - Daycares are scared to have kids go on walks due to ICE
