A murder occurred with live witnesses and 3 other police officers present, and no arrest was made. A tape of the murder is released, and a killer and their 3 accomplices aren't immediately arrested. Who cares about looting, when we are living in a country without the rule of law.
I think foils are really bad for competitive magic bc you basically have to play all foil decks, or no foils in your deck. Alternate art versions are a cool way to solve that problem and still have premium versions exist. I'd like to see foils completely gone.
It really says something about politics in America that Democrats are constantly trying to make it easier for people to vote while Republicans are always trying to make it harder.
The complexity level of the rules is often cited as one of magics drawbacks. Usually I get the confusion, but this time I don't. This couldn't be more clear and concise. Use it for anything but to cast non artifact spells.
I don't think R&D is getting enough praise for the Tribal/Party tension. Normally tribal sets kind of suck bc you tunnel and go all in on a tribe. But focusing more on a tribe means party stuff gets worse so now we have a really cool tension to draft around creature types.
I always say I like good puns, then there is often discussion of what's a good pun. My fav ever came from my stream last year.
I tapped Weaponsmith filtered it through Prismite and used the mana to cast a non artifact spell. Someone called that Mana Laundering and I nearly died.
Since this happens every time I tweet about politics. I'm gonna repeat this. I'm not a corporation, (or tricked like a lot of Americans), making more $$ is a good thing, but making as much as I can is not a goal of mine. I will always speak my mind, feel free to unfollow.
Oko should be banned. But we should absolutely not accept regular bans as the new normal. You know what never needs to be banned for being too good? Good removal spells. Magic is the best game ever bc of interaction. If you want to push the threats, push the answers even more.
In an era where
@wizards_magic
is pushing the envelope with the power level of cards in Standard (which I love) are we ok accepting regular Standard bannings as the price to pay?
Wizards doesn't get nearly enough praise for how good the set design for limited has been for the past 5 years. To each their own, but personally I care very little about the next secret lair and quite a lot about how fun almost every draft format has been in recent times.
Democratic Party since forever: If young people would get off the couch and come out and vote we would win.
*Young people come out in record numbers.
Democratic Party: No not like that, when we said come out and vote, we meant for who we wanted, not who you wanted.
I don't want to lose him as a teammate but
@lsv
is so good at coverage. If I were wotc I would pay him whatever I had to to cover Mythic Champs instead of playing. Literally any amount.
#GPLA
My Grandma passed today. Thank you everyone for the support Tuesday. It was hard, but also I have a great appreciation for the fact that she was 98, and her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids are all alive and healthy. It's a somber feeling, but also she had a great life.
Warren made her choice to place the party over the progressive movement. If you want Obama 2.0, vote Warren. She's super smart, liberal, and progressive. If you want power taken from the parties and shifted to the voters, vote Bernie. I'm 100%. I will be voting
@BernieSanders
.
I have been listening to the complaints about competitive magic.
- London Mull is great for limited but has some harmful effects on old constructed formats.
- No draft in some top premiers.
- Modern.
I've got a perfect solution. Get rid of constructed. All draft all the time!!
I always credit my parents with my magic success. My dad worked long hours during the week driving a truck to put food on the table and then would drive me 4 hours to a ptq in Orlando on Saturday morning. Thank you to my dad and all the other great dads of the world too ❤️
I see people complaining about this "grind" for the 8 spots. When I was on the grind, that meant 10 hour car rides to 1 spot ptqs. Playing online magic until 3am is what I do for fun and if u told me I could qualify for a $1,000,000 tourney if I ran hot, I would have fainted.
My take on Owen. He is still a human(I still don't know any details of what he did) and I think it's fine for his friends to provide personal support. However personal support and promotion are very different. I will not be using my reach/platforms to promote him at all.
2 points here. First, these bans were good, the formats will be healthier with the oppressive and busted cards gone. Second, stop printing busted pro active cards and start printing great reactive cards again so constructed can consistently be healthy without bans.
Hot Take:
People who dislike Modern because it is "high variance" and "linear" are actually just bad at the format and want to blame their losses on something else.
This is a really nice sentiment from someone who definitely wasn't in charge of the country for 8 years and didn't have the opportunity to put real reforms in place that might have stopped this from happening had he chosen to bring officers to justice when they committed crimes.
Online poker is legal in 4 states. The state-by-state rules are variable and push many players to offshore sites. We should clarify the rules and make it legal in all 50 states. US players and companies would benefit and new tax revenues could be used to mitigate addiction.
For non cheating offenses wotc should terminate mpl contracts as they see fit. We are paid representatives of Magic. Then bans should be the same as they would for non mpl. For cheating in game, we should be held to the highest standards as players, and penalties should be harsh
I'm very disappointed in today's announcement. Nothing against the people added, but I thought the mpl was supposed to be top points earners, Autumn made sense, today's don't. Adding 16 slots changes our value. That should only happen in between seasons not in the middle of one.
Almost 100% of the time I have an actual conversation with a Conservative/Republican about politics, it becomes more clear to me how much the vast majority of people on the left and right agree, and how the loud antagonistic people on both sides are preventing a lot of progress.
I believe in addressing bad and unpleasant things, so I'm never shy to talk about them. That means once in a while we need to specifically appreciate the good too. Arena is sooooooo much better than MTGO. I play a lot of online magic and my life got a lot better with Arena, TY.
Magic player we don't know in the elevator to
@MSigrist83
rn - Congrats on getting 2nd today.
Me - Haha Good one.
Him- What?
Me- that's not
@fffreakmtg
Him- Oh they look so similar, my bad.
This is real life. You can't make this stuff up. Literally just happened in Mandalay.
This is honestly one of my favorite magic moments that I participated in. My career highlights.
1) Winning PT Paris
2) HoF induction ceremony
3) Eating a Burrito Bowl
I'm as shock and saddened to hear about Yuuya as anyone else is, I thought of him as a top10 player all time. But if he's guilty of marking his sleeves pre tournament, this isn't moment of weakness. He's most likely cheated a lot, and his previous results mean nothing to me.
Voter fraud is a non issue. The people who complain about voter fraud are the same people who complain that the magic online/arena shuffler is rigged. Strong people accept defeat and work to improve for next time. Weak people look for someone/something else to blame.
People are mentioning when society starts functioning maybe we should stop shaking hands for good. I'm all for it, but while we are in the mood to do away with random traditional nonsense, can we also consider retiring ties and diamonds for good too please?
I can understand wotc's thought process. Some pro's quit magic because there is a lot more money in hearthstone. We should get more money to those players instead of the dedicated magic pros who stayed and don't make very much.
Dem debate: Do you believe in the will of the voters(democracy)?
Bloomberg: No.
Pete: No.
Warren: No.
Amy: No.
Biden: No.
Sanders: Is this a real question?
PV's level of sustained excellence over such a long period is truly remarkable. There is probably no one more deserving of the World Championship title. Congrats!
Europe does a lot of things better than America, from providing health care for all, to the Metric system. However I have never, and will never understand, why Europe is against Air Conditioning.
Anyone DQd for that kind of pre-meditated cheat has always been banned. I think
@wizards_magic
got this exactly right. Since Yuuya had no history, he should get another chance, but we are paid professional players,a slap on the wrist would be wrong. 2.5 Years is perfect.
I would like to propose the next update to the modern banned list. Hogaak, Faithless Looting, Ancient Stirrings, Blood Moon, Urza's Tower, Glistener Elf, Slippery Bogle, Ad Nausuem, and every ritual ever are now banned.
I have the utmost respect for Gerry. He's making a huge personal sacrifice to draw attention to some problems with pro magic that could very easily be improved upon.
I fixed your list.

Arena is great. Watching Magic that is played on Arena, is great. Great players and drafters, drafting and playing against each other, is great. Can we maybe just combine all of these great things?
Fires got banned. Companions Nerfed. Most calls now are to ban Wilderness Reclamation. It's almost like cards that cheat on mana or card advantage are problematic. You know what never needs to get banned? Great Removal Spells!
Does anyone ever wonder why
@AOC
going from bartender to congress isn't the norm? Why do we keep voting for the wealthy. If we want congress to represent us, maybe we should elect more people who work in retail, service industry, teachers, nurses working/middle class jobs, etc.
I'm turning 37 in 2 days. I joke about being old alot, bc in magic I am, in life I'm middle aged. But 27 feels like yesterday, 17 not that long ago. I have some regrets around things I didn't say or did but virtually none around things I did say/do. Time goes fast. Live your life
I'm proud to announce that moving forward
@magemarket
will be sponsoring me. They will be supporting my Stream, Youtube Channel, and Professional Play. If you like my work then please take the time to check out their website now. I hope I can do a great job representing them!
Of course the most important thing is the truth coming out here and whatever justice for Ford that is possible, if he's guilty.
But even if he's innocent, can anyone envision this guy being on the Supreme Court? I wouldn't want to call him over to make a ruling in a GP.
Players Tour Finals starts tommorow. Before it starts I just want to put my official position on the record. If I do well, it's a really tough tourney that counts for a lot, and if I do poorly it's not a pro tour and doesn't remotely compare!
My biggest takeaway from RPT 1 was how much more important it is for the future of magic than the Arena MCs filled with "content creators" and "pros". A system that is accessible to the best young players through fair and open competition must always be the top priority of OP.
You should probably fantasy draft me very highly for MC London. From what I can see, it looks like every one else is planning to start every game with 5 cards.
Pics or it didn't happen.
I voted for Biden. I seriously hope I'm wrong, but I think I'm gonna end up very unhappy with his adminstration. That said, I've never understood lesser of 2 evils arguments against voting. If I'm choosing between 2 evils, give me the lesser please.

I don't know when I became a red mage, but it might be time to accept reality. I guess the saying is true. Either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Why do we still accept the use of the stock market and GDP as measurements of our economy for political purposes. Wouldn't it make much more sense to use quality of life as the measurement?
I have no idea why people think Bernie won't get things through Congress. Look at how the Repubs got in line when Trump won. Bernie's agenda is very popular with the American people. Democrats will either get behind it, or get voted out and replaced by Dems who share our values.
I'll be running on a populist platform in the 2020 election. My policy positions are : Tron is banned from Modern, broken rares are banned from limited, and hexproof is banned from literally everything!
Growing up on the Pro Tour from 1999-2004 I'm not embarrassed to say
@kaibudde
was my idol. 20 years later I beat him in round 1 in the first ever Arena Mythic Championship. Magic is amazing.
#MythicChampionshipIII
I was near tears at the start of my stream tonight, sitting around thinking about how far the new additions to the mpl, and turning the mythic mcs into mythic invitationals, moves magic from an esport to a show, but a night of drafts with my awesome twitch family cheered me up ❤️
Probably one of the most soul crushing thing i saw today
@BenS_MTG
is there anything us viewers can do to express how much we are inspired by top pros?
I'm addicted to Dominaria draft. I think this is the best non-modern masters draft format since I started playing magic again in 2009. All 10 color pairs are draftable. Feels like Battle Box limited. Value is king. But good Tempo/Agro decks def win too. Truly amazing!!
First PSA of Zendikar: If you are viewing the land/spell split cards as 1/x of a land you are viewing it wrong. The better the spell side is the more you should view the card as a spell, the worse the spell side is the more you should view the card as a land.
Is there a reason why there isn't a Top100 leaderboard that shows and automatically updates with the current top100 Mythics for both limited and constructed on Arena in the client? Wouldn't that be great for the mythics and for everyone else too, just win/win.
It's time to make some
@wizards_magic
happen on

For every time someone cheats at magic and gets caught, they cheated and got away with it 100 times. The penalties have never been strict enough for pre-meditated cheating. People can change, but not in 18 months. Penalty should be 5 years the first time. Life the second.
Harrassing people about their past isn't cool. To my knowldge the last serious accusation about
@KbolMagic
was Hornet Queen in like 2015. Keep your eyes open sure, speak the truth yep, but if you don't have new valid accusations to make, not letting someone move forward is wrong.
Perfect take as usual Autumn. The London Mulligan is soooooooooooooooo much better for magic overall. Instead of Mulliganing feeling like a nightmare and the worst part of magic, it now feels like a healthy strategic part of the game. Ban problem cards, keep the great rule!!!!!
My assumption at this point is that if the London Mulligan causes a deck to be oppressive in a format that is more an indication of what should be allowed to be legal within the format rather than what the mulligan rule should be
I would like to finish this year by saying thank you to everyone who works at Wotc. When we disagree with your choices, or don't like cards made, we can and should discuss/criticize. But I know your job isn't easy, so ty for choosing to work on the game we all love so much.
Trump is an asshole, but I don't see him as a unique threat or facist. If he had brought home the troops, ended the wars, let us buy drugs from Canada..., He could have won my vote. All we got were hateful tweets and tax cuts for the rich, so I voted Biden and I'm glad he won.
Wizards/Hasbro has done plenty worth complaining about over the years, and obviously I never root for price increases. But when I started playing magic like 30 years ago in 1994 packs were $2.5-$3. Them going up to $5 in the year 2024 isn't something I'm going to complain about.
On August 1st we're holding the next Arena Open, and the format is..... Historic! Bring your best Historic deck and compete for some sweet rewards (like $2,000).
To the people who don't eat stuff like McDonald's for ethical or nutritional reasons, I get you. But to the people who claim it doesn't taste good, that it isn't absolutely delicious, I just cannot understand you.
Playing magic/poker for a living is a dream come true, but doesn't come with benefits. I just bought mine through the marketplace, and it was $400 a month, for bare minimum coverage, for just me, a 36 year old in good health. Some things just shouldn't be run for profit :(
I wish the Democrats would do less demonizing of the wealthy. We should absolutely tax them MUCH more and use that revenue to fund healthcare and education for all. But for being productive enough to make that possible, I say thank you, not fuck you.
This is a huge compliment imo. It's a game. I want to play better than my opponents but I also want them to have fun. If we aren't having fun why are we playing a game?
@h0lydiva
Biggest disparity the other way (least scary but most likely to lose) has to be BenS. Playing vs him IRL is often half like watching him stream where all the obvious lines are verbally discussed.
We knew the democratic party would go pretty far to stop a candidate who actually represents liberal voters and not their donors from winning. But I didn't think they would actually just throw away the results. I guess if their candidate can't win, no one can.
I'm still in disbelief by how many people are tuning in and subscribing to my stream. Thank you so much to the magic community for your love and support.
I've said it a few times already but it's worth saying again. I'd really like to see an official statement by
@MagicEsports
regarding
@mtghofbot
ban and claims.
Here’s an amazing video where Bernie explains why everyone refers to him as “Bernie” instead of “Mr. Sanders”, “Mayor Sanders”, “Senator Sanders”, etc.
