Chillingham cattle discussed in Darwin's 'Variation of Animals and Plants': "The cattle in their instincts and habits are truly wild."

The herd at Chillingham has a high degree of genetic uniformity (unsurprisingly) - yet no medical/vet interventions, no diseases and a very healthy looking population.

Had been inspired to visit by the excellent 'Britain's Mammals' @WILDGuidesBooks - by Cousins, Swash, Still & Dunn.

Had a great (and informative) trip to see the Wild Cattle (Bos taurus) at Chillingham on Monday. Present for 700+ years - untamed, untouched and unmanaged for the past 200.
