When the neighbors tried to buy this building 10+ years ago, nobody was offering to sell it to them for $1. Instead, DC sat on it for over a decade, watching it decay, & now they’re saying they have to sell it for $1 because so much work is needed to keep the existing structure.
The long-time residents of the adjacent community have for years fought to make the building a recreation center again & have been snubbed by the city repeatedly. They served on task forces and even attempted to pool together funds to purchase the building
