Around 2 years ago a handful of swimmers decided it was time to cut the crap.

In 2013 I worked on a story about a promising young rugby player alongside my colleague

.
Interviewing this youngster at his parents' humble home, it was already clear he was something special. But boy, little did we know where Cheslin Kolbe would be 10 years later.
It still boggles my mind that TWO YEARS ago when I asked the City of Cape Town what their plans are for when we run out of water, I was told that's unlikely to happen due to rainfall patterns. At the same time water experts said we CANNOT rely on past rainfall patterns anymore.

Capetonians - we may only be obliged to use 50 litres per person per day from 1 Feb, but I'd say it's in all of our interests to start doing this ASAP voluntarily. Every drop counts

After 12 years of working fulltime as a journalist I'm embarking on a new chapter today. I'm taking an exciting leap into academia and am now officially a multimedia journalism lecturer at

Almost a year since I left

Excited to share that my film about

Cutting the Crap has been selected for the London Mountain Film Festival!
Hoping more communities will be inspired to join the fight against sewage pollution.
Can't wait? You can also watch it here:
Every time I watch him play I feel so lucky to have followed his career since that morning in Kraaifontein a decade ago. May we all believe in our children the way

Has anyone actually called the SANDF deployment in Cape Town what it is? A clear sign of the complete and utter failure of SAPS. It should not be celebrated, it should make us mourn. How will it help in the long run?

On this day 9 years ago I landed in SA with a one way ticket from the UK after having lived there for 11 years - I had nowhere to live, no car, no job - but the determination to make it as a journalist in Cape Town.

I see

this video did not "surface". It was posted by a

To all the Afrikaans men out there who think they have a monopoly on braai skills... This boytjie is showing he shall not be deterred by the British weather.
It's incorrect to say Shivambu regrets the assault. He did use the word 'regret', but never admitted it was an assault, in fact he said "The scuffle happened and was never an assault on the Journalist or media freedom"

The scale of the waste being produced on a daily basis is completely staggering. Even more shocking is that this has been allowed to continue.

Still one of the highlights of my career - it was brief, it was emotional, and it was worth the embarrassment of the ambush as he was exiting the building after a radio interview. Happy birthday

Fantastic to get an award for this story last night - glad I could help raise awareness about the need to carefully consider the ecological risks of abstracting water from the Cape's aquifers

Whatever happened to the invasive species unit's biological control programme in Cape Town? They reared beetles to munch the water hyacinth in the city. I did a story on it in 2015. I'd be keen to know whether it's solved the problem in CT and if it can be rolled out elsewhere.
I was so moved by what I saw on the streets of Cape Town last week I had to write something.
I welcome any feedback on this issue - it's important that we talk about what transpired during the

protests.

Everyone wants large carnivores to exist - as long as it's not in their back yards. Yet, can you imagine the outrage in Europe if a similar cull of lions was announced somewhere in Africa? The world needs to realise hypocrisy damages conservation efforts.
Depressing to see this lack of tolerance for

Sad that the first Whale Shark I ever saw had to be a dead one on my local beach. This is the second one in 11 days to wash up on a Cape Town beach. The first was at Kommetjie and this one was at Camps Bay tonight.

Every year since I have reflected on my move back with fond memories and as one of the best decisions I have ever made. Which makes it all the more heartbreaking that today I feel more negative than I ever have about the country's future.

Also, audiences no longer want to pay for news, but then suddenly expect 'rolling coverage' of natural disasters from local newsrooms that have little to no resources left for this type of reporting. It's expensive to send journalists and invest in tech to allow them to report it

your robots providing customer service are - surprise surprise - not helpful. My delivery didn't arrive as scheduled and all I am told is that it's gone back to the depot. No reason or update on expected delivery?
I'm sorry - someone approaches you with a camera around their neck in the Parliamentary precinct asking for comment on a developing story and you have no idea they're a journalist? I don't buy that.
