Good old AI has finally solved the mystery for us - the curious objects washing up are not Powerchips from food waste biodegraders or biofilters from waste water treatment plants but Blue Death-Feigning Beetles 🙄

Not a single creature but a colony of tiny individual animals, by-the-wind sailors drift on the surface of the ocean at the mercy of wind and currents.

A magnificent by-the-wind sailor or Velella velella washed up this morning, one of the largest we've found. It's often said that most by-the-wind sailors are left-handers, their sails running from upper left to lower right. But this was a right hander.

Anyone else finding these Eno Fruit Salt sachets washed up? In recent days, our friend Rosemary Hill of Beachcombing in Kerry has found dozens on Irish shores. This haul is just from today. All were manufactured in India with an expiry date of May 2025. Picture credit:

Not quite sure what that is clinging to it either - whether it's a minibeast or a bit of seaweed 🤔

These mystery objects continue to wash ashore. We've picked up thousands now. Still not entirely sure what they are - quite a few people have suggested they are chips from food waste biodigesters. Lab results showed they contained titanium 'but nothing else of concern'.
