Sad to lose him but luckily Pavan won't be too far. Was a great pleasure to work with one of the most talented, energetic young people in Washington, big impact in a short period of time.

Super excited to join @JoinFAI! I’ve had the privilege of working closely with FAI’s energy team (particularly @ThomasHochman) on preserving clean firm tax credits & permitting reform. Looking forward to continuing my work on those issues and taking on new ones…

Eh, not so sure. The capacity additions we’re seeing now are likely mostly projects that cleared major permitting before this year and thus avoided the political blockade. I'd expect to see the effect of the admin's permitting actions wrt solar show up more in '26 and '27.

The specific regulatory hurdles this CEO details are unique to his companies. But the general pattern - over regulation, under staffing, & litigation - plays out throughout the country, damaging both our economy *and* environment.

My lobbyists are very nervous about me posting this, but over-regulation is working against us all. The costs are astronomical to us all, but hidden. So, I'm taking a risk, and sharing my stories from Charm and Revoy: https://t.co/UsaltST5gJ

NEW: the SPEED Act is approved by @NatResources with this amendment by a 25-18 vote. 2 Democrats voted for the overall NEPA overhaul bill from Chair Westerman. Reps. Jared Golden, the lead Dem co-sponsor and Adam Gray of California. Story to come

NEW: Natural Resources Committee approves measure to stop executive branch revoking energy permits. Big development on a bipartisan amendment that Chair Westerman brokered w/Dems to his SPEED Act/NEPA overhaul. Unclear how it'll move votes on the bill

Permitting costs then compound with the natural risk of developing early tech, scaring off investors and slowing the cycle of innovation. See below for more on how this applies to clean energy in the NEPA context https://t.co/tBYhR5AIeo

Peter gives a really great illustration of the perverse "regulatory cost curve" of permitting. New, innovative companies in hard tech are often hardest hit by permitting because regulators don't understand their tech or environmental effects well. https://t.co/xJElDSmp7f

It’s the hyper-online anti-skilled immigration pundits who don’t get it. Trump voters widely agree with him that skilled immigration is good for America and Americans. The winning strategy here is to fix H-1B to end IT outsourcer abuse and put top talent in front of the line.

The Trump administration is divided on H-1B. Unfortunately, it appears the president himself comes down on the pro-H-1B side. Embracing H-1B will depress the base and lead to a massive midterm wipeout. I hope the president will come around to doing the right thing.

The authors say that price controls can work if we commit to lift them later. This argument would have been more compelling if the authors cited an example of that happening.

I have great respect for @nealemahoney & @BharatRamamurti, but I just about pulled my hair out reading their op-ed this morning. Price controls aren't going to be "a way out" unless their advocates can credibly commit not to apply them to today's projects tomorrow. 🧵/12

I spent a decade at DOJ watching projects struggle to get permitted only to "die on the vine" even after being approved. The problem has only gotten worse since I left (in 2021). I'm hopeful that we're at an inflection point & Congress is ready to legislate to fix the problem.

New in ME: Rep. Seth Magaziner (D-R.I.) tells me a half dozen Democrats are “actively” negotiating with Natural Resources Chair Bruce Westerman to tack on “permit certainty” language to his NEPA overhaul bill. Reaching a deal could dictate how much Dem support SPEED Act gets

Due to this country's lack of state capacity for projects like high-speed rail, experts were able to save fourteen billion dollars in project costs by altering designs that had been based on freight-rail standards. In-house capacity saves money!

CHIPS took a lot of heat during the "everything-bagel liberalism" fights. But in retrospect, it was quite effective industrial policy. Other federal programs (rural broadband, EV chargers, etc) deserved the slings and arrows.

In recent decades, only a handful of government interventions have been widely regarded as successes. Operation Warp Speed is one of them. So is the CHIPS Act, the $39 billion program that catalyzed a massive investment boom in manufacturing semiconductors on American soil.
