For the first time in 5 years Covid is relatively quiet during the holiday season. The XEC variant marches on (latest CDC genomic surveillance below) slowly advancing as % of attributable cases. Fortunately, it's not one that poses a big challenge to our now conditioned immune

🚨🚨I’m excited to present our lab’s new paper where we tried to provide a mechanistic explanation for the link between antibiotic use and risk of developing inflammatory bowel diseases (#IBD). A 🧵/1 https://t.co/k2wUPoIwTm

Antibiotics inhibit production of the protective mucus in the colon, thus predisposing to gut inflammation.

Great night last night in Cambridge with @DrFran_Colucci, made better by randomly meeting an @karolinskainst Amgen scholar from 2014 as the 2024 cohort also randomly was walking by…..a 10 year generation gap but still the same excitement @ASP_GPO @AmgenFoundation

Welcome to @Cambridge_Uni #AmgenScholars Prof. Alex Webb kicks off the day, reminding Scholars that contrary to how scientists are often depicted in films, with the lone scientist in a lab, science is a team endeavor

Why is nobody telling them to google it?
When our son was 3 years old he casually asked us "why is sky blue" in public place. My wife redirected that question immediately to me. People around us watching at us to see how badly we fail in the answer. Thankfully I have written some sky shaders so I knew this one :)

This is a scary, yet amazing discovery. Cancer can arise without mutations following transient loss of epigenetic gene silencing. https://t.co/GX9xYXkGWQ
nature.com
Nature - A transient perturbation of transcriptional silencing mediated by Polycomb proteins is sufficient to induce an epigenetic cancer cell fate in Drosophila in the absence of driver mutations.
