🧵 The ASN Attainment Gap in Scotland:. 1/ The ASN attainment gap exists in Scotland too. However, because we don’t measure reading and numeracy ages, we have no clear idea of its full extent—only that it exists.

@lathan_miss @ASNReformScot @GiveTimeScot @UpstartScot @LynburnNurture @suzannezeedyk lots of talks about ā€˜additional resources’ and yes they are helpful. But even more urgently we need systems change and to challenge narratives which suggests a child with ASN is in some way a burden.

ASN education too often protects systems, not people. Parents, carers, support staff, teachers—and most importantly, CHILDREN—are being failed by a system meant to support them. Get it right for ASN children, and we get it right for everyone.

Parents and carers have spoken. Is anyone in power actually listening?. More importantly — will we finally see action to make education truly inclusive?.

When do you think this was written by the Scottish Parliament’s Education Committee?. ā€œA strong theme of evidence from parents and teachers…was the gap between the experience envisaged of inclusive education and the experience of the children they supported in practice.ā€. 2017.

Powerful thread from @givetimescot.bsky.social — a must-read. Across every campaign and every voice — parents, carers, teachers, PSAs — the message is clear: The system isn’t protecting children. It’s protecting itself!.

Local authorities are meant to serve people, not just manage budgets. When councils knowingly disadvantage children, silence voices, and offload responsibility to families, that’s not providing a service. That’s abandonment.

We’ve been hearing from parents and carers at Lockhart Primary School, an ASN (Additional Support Needs) school in North Ayrshire. They have been informed that the local authority will no longer cover the cost of transport for pupils living within a two-mile radius of the school.

Children with additional support needs and their parents and carers are being failed. They have responded to consultations, engaged with reviews and met with ministers. In spite of all of this, nothing changes.

In Scotland, too many parents/carers of children with Additional Support Needs are exhausted—fighting a system that should help. Legal action? It’s expensive, draining, and out of reach for so many of us. Why must we go to tribunal just to get our kids the support they’re.

@ASNReformScot @scotgov I don’t know about your school but my son’s school doesn’t care. In face we have had to launch legal action against his school just to try and get him the support he needs and is entitled to. That the reality parents face every day.
