These attacks are not simply disorderly conduct. The continual disrespect of police is plunging us into a state of lawlessness. If the City does not respong and make it clear our police will be supported, our city will dissolve into chaos.
The real problem here is the lack of support from the Mayor is sending a message that police officers can not count on being backed up when they enforce the law and protect all of us. It also sends a clear message to criminals that they can act more brazenly

We can no longer ignore the continued rise in shootings. Making noise only when it is a police involved shooting or making anti threats against police is sending a bad message to criminals Thank you
@NYCPBA
for speaking out.
We can not have a city which is safe for our families unless we start creating a climate of support, appreciation and backing for the overwhelming majority of brave and professional police officers. Clearly that supportive climate does not exist today in NYC.
“This is what the NYPD has become, and New Yorkers should not be complacent. The New York of 10 years ago that we perhaps took for granted is gone. And as long as the good guys in blue are shackled from doing their jobs, it won’t be coming back.”
We need to remember all our police heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect all of us. But we must also support our police and not condone anti police rhetoric which encourages disrespect of our police.
Dets. James Nemorin & Rodney Andrews gave it all as they went undercover to take down an illegal gun ring. Today, 17 years later, we keep our heroes & their families in our prayers. NY’s Finest honor their tremendous legacy every day as they continue to fight crime.

The Mayor and Chancellor mismanaged public education. Lack of diversity in specialized HS’s & other schools must end. Scrapping SHSAT is not the answer. DOE must expand gifted programs & provide enrichment per student’s needs & Stop depriving gifted programs to minorities.
We can not continue the political rhetoric of anti police statements and actions without this climate fostering disrespect and brazenness by criminals and disturbed persons. We must reverse this anti police climate
Police officers are family members. They face same economic pressures and they deserve to receive pay equal to their work. They save lives daily at great risk to themselves. They deserve a pay increase equal to their great service to our families.

All parents must speak up. We must not let our children’s future be decided by a lottery. The choice of high school must be decided by a child’s merit and interest by the parent and the child based on proven educational assessments, not a lottery. It must be fixed now!
We stood shoulder-to-shoulder with all parents who believe that hardwork and good grades matter. Many are immigrants. We came to America for opportunities based on merit, not luck or social connections.

I definitely strongly support SHSAT. Susan Zhuang was my chief of staff in the prior fights to keep SHSAT and I look forward to beating back this anti Asian anti immigrant attack, with Susan and all our allies mobilizing for this important pathway to achieving the American Dream
Congratulations to all our children who successfully gained acceptance to our specialized High schools. Shame on DOE for not congratulating their success and for not providing all children with tools of quality education to succeed.
Solar and wind are the energy source of the future. Under my bill we can get there by 2030 and still do what needs to be done to transition to comparable renewable jobs for cuurent fossil jobs. But time is running and we must act now to be able to have a smooth transition
Parents must start asking every candidate do they support 1)the SHSAT as the criteria for Specialized HS Admissions, 2)keeping & expanding gifted and talented classes to every school district & 3)replacing Carranza as Chancellor. Nothing is more important than a child’s education
Parents must register & make clear their vote for candidates with track record of ideas for supporting SHSAT, expanding G&T’s, complying with IEP’s, quality remedial programs for underperforming students and enrichment for students at all levels by merit and not by chance.
Screened schools have been the vehicle for many lower income families to succeed. Let NYC not abandon these families. Let’s expand this opportunity to include all neighborhoods, including those with high African American and Latino students.

We must never forget these heroes and the continuing anguish of their families. Yet how is it we permit these heroes to be paid so much less than other police departments? Something is very wrong with that!

I commend Council Member Deutsch for speaking out vs. the hate speech from CEC 22 member Jacky Cody. To remain silent in the face of hate speech only serves to encourage such hate speech. Restricting speaking time to 1 or 2 minutes unreasonably restricts one’s right to speak

We must show our support for our police. We have passed the tipping point and unless we reverse directions lawlessness will prevail. For 4 years I have been wear a blue ribbon to show support of police, both in Albany and in community. We need to show that support everywhere
I agree. When political leaders publicly praise professional police actions and the need to show support and appreciation of our police it begins to change the present anti police climate. That’s why I publicly wear a blue ribbon, both in the community and in Albany.

How about you tell our absent, lying mayor to provide decent raises so the city can retain officers instead of training them to work elsewhere for more money and a better quality of life?
SHSAT is an objective test which the DOE’s own study revealed was successful in predicting success likelihood in specialized high schools. Grades are subjective and can be influenced by teacher favoritism, outside influence and corruption.
We should not use grades for school admissions, nor rely on grades as a measure of scholastic achievement. Grades are subjective, and subjectivity breeds corruption.
Eric Adams has supported expanding gifted programs and the specialized high schools. He also has opposed defunding the police and reinstating anti crime units. He is one of my three top choices for mayor.
PLACE NYC proudly endorses Eric Adams for Mayor of New York City. Borough President Adams has a long track record of support for increasing access to and improving the quality of education in New York City.
@ericadamsfornyc
Read our press statement.
The fight to eliminate the SHSAT is still going forward. The Chancellor is asking for the state to repeal the law creating the SHSAT to allow the City to eliminate it and create a selection criteria not based on objective merit. Another example of a total lack of transparency.
Our transit system is falling back into disorder with this brazen assault on our police for upholding the law. This incident also shows how difficult it is for a cop to arrest someone who does not want to be arrested.
Our Specialized HS’s are a gateway for lower income children to earn their place in the American Dream. It is morally wrong to deny a seat earned by hard work and merit.
The city pleads having no money but instead of prioritizing its budget to those things needed to make city livable ie Education,Housing , Public Safety and Health and Sanitation, it keeps spending more on six figure crony consultants. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Chancellor Carranza expands his staff despite a looming teacher shortage, and threatened layoffs. His three new six-figure execs received a "Covid-19 exemption" from the DOE hiring freeze. via

Thank this brave officer for protecting the community at the grave risk to his own life. This is why all in the comminity should be speaking out to support such professional police action, and why our oolice deserve a substantial pay increase.

Parents and children won a great victory in stopping this divisive and wrong headed bill. Thanks to tens of thousands of emails and calls, it became clear the SHSAT is not the problem and that DOE’s failure to have gifted programs in all districts is the real problem.

Parents are hopeful the new chancellor chosen by Mayor Elect Eric will avoid divisiveness and instead act like an educational leader expanding gifted programs, establishing proven remedial programs and fully implementing the IEP’s for special education children.
Incoming Schools Chancellor David Banks will do away with several choices made under the de Blasio administration. He wants to keep both the gifted and talented program and the SHSAT, while also expanding on these opportunities for students to get into specialized schools.
Yesterday we lost one of our own in a tragic off-duty car accident. We ask that you keep Police Officer Kimberly LaJara's family in your thoughts and prayers during this trying time.

It is critical people go to at least one of the Specialized HS hearings and express their support to KEEP SHSAT. SHSAT is not the problem. The problem is the failure of NYC DOE to provide gifted and talented to children in underserved school districts.
There will be new attempts to eliminate not only Specialized High Schools selection by merit but all gifted programs in early grades and middle schools. Parents must demand gifted programs be opened in every school district in the city. Come Feb 19 at 29 Bay 25 at 7:30pm.

We must support our police who are the front line of protecting us. There are clear signs that the anti police policies are beginning to degenerate our city to lawlessness. We need to let the police do their job of protecting all families in the city
The Chancellor seems more interested in implementing a divisive social policy rather than improving education. I fear his branding of some children as privileged and advocating for admission to Specialized H S by race and geographic locations pits one group against another.
Eliminating gifted programs because results are not equitable is nonsense. We should eliminate cause of inequity. Cause in NYC is both Bloomberg & de blasio systematically closed programs in low socio economic neighborhoods which is morally and educationally wrong.
The SHSAT has long been an entry point for low income families to attain the American Dream by hard work. Why did the 2 prior mayors close gifted programs in low income areas, shutting down their pipeline to SHSAT access. Expand gifted classes for all neighborhoods. KEEP SHSAT

I am very concerned this grading policy is attempting to slip through a idealogical scheme to drastically impose a grading which eliminates a true measure of academic standards and not merely a temporary solution to an emergency. This is not acceptable
The Doe decision to put “a pause” on middle school screening is a serious setback for quality education. It deprives all children of the opportunity to attend a school they have earned a seat to advance their skills and talents. Another example of bankrupt educational leadership

Defunding the police makes no sense. Elected officials should be ashamed of following such mindless clamor. It is our brave professional police officers who protect our families against those looking to rob, rape, deal drugs and kill.

There continues to be serious uptick in Covid-19 cases in Southern Brooklyn. It is urgent everyone follow safe procedures. Wear a mask when outside, wash hands frequently, practice social distancing. Let’s be considerate of others, especially vulnerable seniors who we may infect.
The Chancellor ignores history which shows the diversity gap in specialized high schools grew after the city started shutting gifted programs in middle and early grade schools in the very African American and Latino neighborhoods where now there are low numbers paasing SHSAT
"...when high-potential students in black and Latino communities were given the tools to succeed, they did so in numbers far more proportionate to their presence in the school system... the city has decided to scapegoat the test instead..."
I was honored to speak at Stuyvesant HS Parent Association Spring Feast. Together with Nancy Tong, I assured them of our support to KEEP SHSAT and urged them to speak out to demand the DOE create more gifted and talented programs in every district to get more diversity.
There are numerous complaints about this system set up by the prior city administration and the prior chancellor. It must be fixed now. Mismatching children with schools is too important to go on for another school year.
SUPPORT SHSAT COME Saturday June 1 at 11am at 29 Bay 25 St Bklyn. Speak out for all student’s opportunity to get into specialized high schools by merit. Let DOE expand gifted classes in all districts and improve education for all, not hide evidence of their failure to do so
