@KermodeMovie
I was the producer who made the this call today.
I was only asking if he was interested in coming on to talk about a survey on the "Britishness" in TV and film.
I am sorry if I offended you Mr Kermode. I meant no disrespect. I heard you elsewhere and liked your comments.

I just got a call from GBNews asking if I would go to talk about …
That’s as far as they got - I told them I wouldn’t go on GBeebies if my life depended on it.
Do they honestly not do ANY research at all?
Jesus wept.
@IinoBrian
@KermodeMovie
Hi Brian, it is a press release from BFI. I have attached below. To be honest I am a foreigner, a foreign graduate myself as well. Thanks for your message.
@IinoBrian
@KermodeMovie
I was not being passive aggressive Brian...English is not my first language and I meant it when I say thank you and I have very little idea of Britishness myself. I am so sorry if I made myself sound like that but I truly was not trying to push an agenda here. :(
Celebrating New Year's Eve on my own (well, with bubble tea) at
@TimesRadio
's control room, keeping the station running overnight with loads of great interviews, just for you.
Happy New Year!!
Merry Christmas 🎉 I am keeping
@TimesRadio
going overnight tonight and tomorrow night by pushing faders and pressing some buttons. Don't worry nothing will go wrong, nothing...
I think the biggest takeaway for me this week is that people can respect each other regardless of the differences between us.
One more 3am start tomorrow before going back to my favourite radio station on Monday night.
Thank you for your kindness.
Only just got this due to *check notes* "global chip shortages". Still cannot quite believe I now have a staff contract AND a 5-year Skilled Workers Visa after all those rejections in the past two years, more exciting journeys ahead please!
Yes... I am 24 today. Celebrating my birthday by working in one of the best radio stations!
It has been a weird and difficult year but glad I made it and I am thriving somewhere in Zone 1/2 in London!
It's always tricky to say something when you work for them and are just about to make a living. But I've to say I found the comment seriously appalling, misogynistic and stupid. This is not the journalism I came to GB News for and should never ever happen anywhere. It's horrific.
What a fantastic journey at
@TimesRadio
for the last 15 months! Thank you to my lovely colleagues and especially
@timlevell
for the opportunity. Look forward to my next adventure🙌
Proud to be working in the industry I love. Made so many friends throughout my journey in online, student, community and national radio stations. Here are some of my favourite moments.
#worldradioday
It's heavily delayed but finally happened - a celebration for all the deadlines, achievement, and friendship I had
@cardiffuni
. Great to visit
@CardiffJomec
again and having all the memories coming back to me whilst walking along those familiar streets in the city.
#CardiffGrad
It really doesn't feel like it but I am 25 today🎉. Sent myself the best birthday gift: a staff contract in the industry I love. Here wish for a even better year ahead🔆
So excited chatting with
@gregjames
today!We talked about his Breakfast Show
@bbcr1
, doing interviews and some great suggestions for young journalists. Listen to the conversation next Saturday on The Global View
@xpressradio
.
Sorry this is the best screenshot I had🙈
Spent my 4th Christmas in the UK with getting up late, E-bike cycling, early-evening cooking and watching my favourite Chinese TV series. Still feel a little bit lonely but much more positive than 2 months ago.
Merry Christmas🎄to you and your family.
Saw the cutest train in the UK, some historical houses, endless green open space, an impressive library, and the station I used to listen to and phone in from the other side of the planet. Birmingham was great 🙌
I am super nervous about this...but I will briefly appear on 5 News Tonight with other lovely guests at 6:30pm talking about
#CoronaVirus
. Tune in if you could :)
Was quite unwell since Manchester trop, and learnt some slightly concerning changes at work while I was still in bed. But I'm still excited to prepare for a trip I always wanted but never had a chance to do, till now: I am visiting home 1st time since I came here in 2019 🔆
3 years in 🇬🇧! Learnt a lot, met some inspiring people, got around 200 rejection letters and put up some weight (again!).
It's been tough not being able to see my family for 3 years but I am still coping. Never thought I could go this far, so I guess passion does help.
Cheers🎉
Proud to say I have been nominated for Volunteer of the Year in Community Radio Awards 2022.
I joined Radio Cardiff the second day I arrived in the UK. From a newsreader to reshaping & leading the news team, this
has been an amazing experience. Huge thanks to
@DJdonnazee
too.
To be honest, it is quite a difficult time for many. Uni closed means I lost my usual social connection. Radio station closed means I couldn't help by presenting my show. Friends left the UK means homesickness kicking in again. Finding a job, accommodation expiration...Tired.
An update on mom:
After tests and CT scans, the doctor suspectee she had problems with blood flowing to the brain. It might just simply be cervical spondylosis. She is taking medicine and it is improving.
I am grateful for kind messages I received after last tweet. Thank you❤
Mom hasn't felt well for a few days but she said "It's not serious and I'll take a weekend off and it will be fine." But it didn't turn better. After collaboration between my dad and I she finally agreed to go to hospital tomorrow.
I hope it's nothing more serious than a cold.❤
Yesterday I took a walk in the city for the first time after 10 weeks of staying in. Thoroughly enjoyed the view and fresh air in
#Cardiff
bay
Today my accommodation contract was extended. Life is still really hard and stressful but at least there's good news to keep me going.🔆
It has been a busy day today - I am on
@bbc5live
@BBCRadio4
and
@BBCRadioWales
talking about how recent news stories will affect Chinese students in the UK. Now chatting with mom before her bedtime. 😀
A day in Sheffield: Supertram, botanic garden, art gallery and National Emergency Service Museum.
Back in the office tomorrow. With the Great British Rail Sale, I guess a few more trips are essential. It'd be good to have a companion but I think I made solo trips work so far.
I was told by a rejection letter that I did not show enough 'persistence'. I guess it's true. How can someone be persistent if he/she studied abroad, coped with homesickness & pressure and kept applying with 80+ rejections?
Anyway, I love the view of
#london
. It's beautiful.
Deleted last tweet and felt a bit of positivity. The decision cannot be appealed but I had a few chats with a company yesterday and hopefully things will work out. Thank you for your lovely messages. They mean a lot to me.
So that is the end of an era!
The Global View came to an end and I am so proud to keep the show going throughout the lockdown and to do it live with the team from four countries. Massive thanks to everyone listened to us!
Listen back to our final show:
Caught Covid after trying to avoid it for 2 years. Can hardly eat or drink and lost my voice. It is hard when you have to deal with all those on your own...😔
It was an incredible 4 years studying in my uni. In SISU I met great teachers, professors and maybe life-long friends. Cannot wait to go back and walk around like I did every evening in that 4 years😊 Happy 70th birthday!❤
My Chinese flatmate has left, and my Greek flatmate is leaving this Friday. He has been very kind and helpful. And my British flatmate (tall lady) is leaving next week, then my Indian flatmate as well. It has been great 9 months living with those lovely people❤
#SenghennyddCourt
Having a bit of low time recently. Sleeping has been disrupted by work and the weather. Caught cold during heatwave. Cost of living soaring. Now someone relatively important is moving abroad probably wont come back. It's just a bit difficult at the moment.
#justwhingeing
I have some good & bad news:
- Good news: I'll take over the Monday & Wednesday's Breakfast Show on
@RadioCardiff
, 7-9am. My first show will be next Wednesday. 🎉
- Bad news: The jingles for my show are not finished yet... So I'll start my show with temporary ones next week😂
#R1TreasureHunt
Cannot really understand why the first person had to answer the question immediately and the second person could Google it online?? SO sorry for Brad
#JusticeForBrad
Stayed at friend's for a night and lucky enough to be a guest during his family shopping trip to Winchester and had lunch with him and his parents.
It has been 2.5years since last time I had lunch with my parents. Miss them ❤
Felt emotional (again) after seeing the marks for my dissertation. All those work paid off. Huge thanks to
@tonyonthephone
! Even more emotional to see a second email with one more piece of good news. The clue is in the picture.
Ended my 2020 with an evening shift. This year: from Cardiff to London, from uni to office, from highs to lows, lows and lows😂.
Luckily, though struggling with finding a job, which is much harder for me as a foreigner, I am still hanging in here.
2021, please treat us better.
From today, my mom(pic 4) won't need to get up at 5:30 for early shift and I won't worry about her safety getting home after night shift anymore. Because the new tube line opened today.
We've been waiting for this for 4 years.
Best wishes to my hometown Hefei, and I miss you❤
Yesterday was cancelled but today was going on well. Spent my afternoon listening to commissioning editors from
@BBCRadio4
talking about the future of Radio 4. An eye-opening journey.
Spending Valentine's Day during a solo trip in Manchester was not too bad! I reunited with uni friends and smashed a escape room, had hot pot with my ex-professor visiting Uni of Manc, and sat on the Metrolink trams travelling through the towns and villages nearby.🚊
#Manchester
So I have finished a big project in the past few weeks - improve local news service on
@RadioCardiff
.
I finished a recruitment from scratch and worked with other team members,
@SMMHasnath
,
@JezzaTaff
and
@DJdonnazee
to organise online assessment/ training sessions.
Many people are sharing pictures of their first proper professional haircut. However, living in Wales means it's my friend doing mine again today.
#nottoobad
🥳
Got another extension from
@ukhomeoffice
so I can stay until end of March for now and see if the flight home gets cancelled again or I can magically get a sponsorship.
3rd Christmas here (always thought it is my 2nd) and it is both tough & exciting.
Hope something good happens.
I was walking home from JOMEC in Cardiff's Central Square with my friend
@LLLucy_Zhu
and four young guys who I walked past shouted "Hey!
#Coronavirus
!" followed by a gesture of covering the mouth with collars.
.
Today's cancelled.
There's a bit of everything going on in my life right now, and I don't even know which one I should worry about first: move to London? Find a Tier-2 job in 6 months? Living Expense? Mental Health?
At least I have a fab view outside the window - some positivity I really need now.
2 unbelievable things happened today:
a. I met the real
@PetrieHosken
who I listened to every day and phoned in since 2017 on BBC Radio London.
b. I was so excited and forgot to ask for a photo.
Yeah...
It has been quite a few weeks: fought an illegal early eviction with help from the Council; 3 job interviews; found a studio after countless viewings; recovered almost all data on my hard-drive-corrupted laptop; guest spoke at a uni; and moving home.
Yes, I'm still here😊
BBC Radio London is literally getting rid of every single one of the best presenters they have on air. I've been listening to Duncan, Jim and Petrie for years and it is really really sad to hear this news. I am not a Londoner but I think Londoners deserve these great presenters.
Such a lot of speculation at the mo - thought I’d clear things up. Along with
@DuncanBarkes
&
@JimDavisOnAir
I will be leaving
@BBCRadioLondon
at the end of March. After 3 years at 4am it’s time. It’s been great. Enjoyed every minute... thank you for your ears!
It still needs time to recover but spring is coming. Absolutely delighted to see these pictures from my beloved hometown.
Yesterday the final few patients there have left the hospital, meaning the number of existing cases in my hometown is 0.
Best news for a while.❤
Recently I was appointed as News Team Coordinator of
@RadioCardiff
. It is a voluntary position and I am honoured to be trusted by many.
It's been really tough for me struggling to find a job recently, but knowing the news team is ready to go next Monday does make me smile.
It has been a wonderful night that I will surely never forget! Huge love to
@SunnyandShay
and lovely guests for being so kind to me! Producer Lauren surprisingly invited me to see how she does the work and Mike gave me a bonus surprise for taking me into the news booth..❤❤
Had a long unpleasant call with dad who insists I give up and go home early if I "cannot see a future or things just don't work out".
I know he said it bc he cares but the helpless feeling of him unable to understand what I've gone through & achieved was really offputting.
Tomorrow on The Global View
@xpressradio
:
- Topical talks on masks and tests
#Covid_19
-
@iainlee
from
@talkRADIO
chats about his radio show and quarantine life.
-
@LouieGFletcher
talks about wildlife stories.
- Great global music.
Call us live 02037405689. Join us 10am-12!
Just finished most of things I need to do today... Here's a fun fact: Today I received a text from my lovely listener for the first time since I started my show on
@RadioCardiff
last October
I was literaturely singing and dancing with
@EpicPenguinWar
in the studio to celebrate🙈
This year again, I will be celebrating New Year here alone. It's been 15 months since the last time I saw my family and I miss them hugely. Hope everything can get better soon. Any recommendations of radio, podcasts, TV series? My favourites are
@sunnyandshay
and
@JimDavisOnAir
.
@ThatBethWoman
@SkitterMacknic1
@KermodeMovie
Yes indeed. I have been hunting for quite a while but a staff contract (the minimum requirement for a sponsorship in major companies) is as you can expect very very difficult to get, so I am still freelancing. Probably will have to head home soon. Thank you for explaining :)
@PetrieHosken
Your show kept me accompanied from lunch time in China to early mornings in the UK and I will be missing your show hugely Petrie!! Let us know where you are heading next and I send you all my best wishes!
I don't have a "work meeting" to go to, so instead I went to get my booster jab and possibly will spend tomorrow lying in bed crying and regretting this decision.
But before all that, here I am for a night shift
@TimesRadio
.
