Establish tracking mechanisms: Ask your admin about ways to monitor billing practices at your institution and identify potential denials, particularly in cases where there may be resistance to using the cardiology revenue code.

Educate on correct billing practices: Schedule a meeting with the identified admin to discuss the importance of proper billing for CCTA. Emphasize the need to use a cardiology revenue code (048x), when appropriate, instead of the more general radiology revenue code (035x).

Engage your revenue cycle team: Begin by identifying your health system's revenue cycle administrators. In larger organizations, this process typically starts with your division or department administrator or practice manager, who can guide you.

CMS must see that more than 50% of hospitals are using the 048x revenue code for CTA within the next 3 - 4 years to keep CCTA in APC 5572 or revert to the lower APC 5571 classification.

To all CTCA advocates!! If the majority of hospitals do not start using cardiology revenue codes (048x), the CCTA codes will lose APC 5572 placement -- and reimbursement could return to $175 (or even lower) from the current $357.
