There’s a mini doc on Disney+ about Soul and why this specific scene was so important for a black character. Basically they were doing a scene where the character was getting a new suit and the director was like, as a black dude I would need a haircut too.

He said it was important to see al the textures of black hair on screen and they had to write this scene into the movie. He had to have a dialogue with his white colleagues why it made sense and they supported it. It’s subtle, but important.
