Grad student tip of the day: Plan on changing Stata defaults for tables/figs. It is up to YOU to decide on appropriate # of decimal points, color scheme, line thickness, axis titles, legend, ticks, ect. Stata defaults are ugly and often bad. Ugly figs are bad figs.

Well, that's that. Just taught my last ever undergrad class. Retirement 6/30/22 and reduced teaching (only graduate pedagogy) in 2021-22. Almost 40 years of large-enrollment classes. And finished it all up in my basement, on zoom. It'll take awhile to sink in.

Econ PhD advice thread: @carolyn_sms and I co-wrote our job market papers, so we often get asked about the pros and cons of co-authoring with grad school peers. Now that we both have survived the market, I wanted to tweet out a few reflections on our experience.

Small things count as well -- even in some higher institutions, but not in Berkeley or LSE. (1) I don't recall how many times people spelled my name wrong. Auto-correction is not the one to blame. (2) Many of my Asian friends had to come up with names that are easy to pronounce.

It's been a tough year for everyone, but please avoid travelling during this holiday/pandemic season. Do keep in mind that not everyone has the access to healthcare, and hospitals in the rural areas may have very limited resources. #StayatHomeAndStaySafe #wearmaskcorrectly

I'm shocked by the news report from O'Hare today :( I totally understand the urge of getting back to the air. My travel is down by over 90k miles this year, but I've decided to call it a year and cancelled all my remaining plans.
