This. 👇 Henry and I have been without heat and power for over 24 hours with no end in sight. It’s currently 5 degrees in Austin. My parents’ water supply ran out last night. And we’re the lucky ones with shelter.
I don't mean to be hyperbolic, but to all my friends outside of Texas: we are in a state of emergency due to this cold weather that will likely result in many deaths and our government has barely moved an inch to provide shelter for people who have gone 24 hours without power.

Also want to note that it’s great to donate to places like food banks! But there are immediate needs - rent, gas, dinner - that can be helped *right now*. You can do both!

Friends: Yashar has posted this a few times throughout the pandemic and each time his replies are flooded with people who need immediate help. If you have the means, a small amount via Venmo can make a huge difference. (And yes our government has failed us.)
If you don't need your $600 stimulus check and have been thinking about donating it or giving it away, there are plenty of people in the replies of the tweet below who need your help. I can't say it enough, best way to help right now is to give money directly to people in need.
