A very good 🧵 It illustrates a major reason why I have disengaged from this site https://t.co/xIPeu5H4mc
Can we...just accept that we suck at this? I want to tell you a story that has made me kinda hopeless about Twitter's ability to affect positive things happening, and it starts with this tweet from Hillary Clinton. https://t.co/CCWzdwPSUu

After 2 missed landing approaches at Changi (most likely due to crosswinds), my flight #EK354 headed north and landed in Kuala Lumpur. Now awaiting a gate to refuel but pax all need to use the toilets! So near but so far from home.

After some sleep, I should correct that the official final day at P-60 was around 26 hours with meetings, contact groups, huddles, and plenaries all in a row (but it sure as hell felt like 30).

In this case, "extraordinary" is an understatement. The final session was about 30 hours long for most of us involved in developing the programme of work And many kudos to the @IISD_ENB team for documenting the meeting. 🙏
After extraordinary efforts to reach consensus, the #IPCC has agreed to a programme of work and successfully concluded its first substantive meeting of its seventh assessment cycle.

Perfectly timed during the @IPCC_CH P-60 meeting. I wrote about how risks arising from extreme heat + urban heat leads to undesirable outcomes, so what can urban policymakers - especially in tropical cities - do to reduce these risks?
Extreme heat associated risks are getting complicated with rapidly developing settlements in the tropics. How can urban policymakers successfully manage these risks? Read the new Commentary by @winstontlchow

Fun fact, the #IPCC has produced assessment reports during AR6 that total around 12,000 pages - Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C (SR15), 631 pages - Climate Change and Land (SRCCL), 908 pages - The Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC), 766 pages 1/

It is about time someone wrote this article.. The IPCC approach would identify 1.5°C of warming "a decade after crossing the 1.5°C level" There are a multitude of approaches to give a more realistic & updated estimates of current warming. https://t.co/ulV4as4mEK 1/

#COP28 starts this week. Current policies make it likely that #globalwarming will exceed 1.5°C during the 21st century & make it harder to limit warming below 2°C. #IPCC's Synthesis Report underscores the urgency of taking more ambitious action. 🔗 https://t.co/zAMzd12TGF

Y’all rightly asked for this. So my brilliant colleagues @DrSimEvans + @VernerViisas crunched the numbers on colonial emissions. Their analysis radically shifts historical responsibility for climate change.

Historical responsibility for climate change is radically shifted when colonial rule is taken into account, Carbon Brief analysis reveals.

There is no facet of society that is immune from heat-health concerns, not even a @taylorswift13 concert. https://t.co/YVHFs1yiKq

Taylor Swift postponed an Eras Tour concert in Rio de Janeiro Saturday after a 23-year-old fan died during her Friday night show, according to a message posted on the singer's Instagram.
As much as some may disagree, today’s postponement was very much necessary for the safety of everyone, Taylor included, you can see just how much the heat was getting to her after yesterday’s show and doing that again would have not been a good idea.

Our lifestyles and patterns of consumption and production across regions, between and within countries, and among individuals have contributed to emissions of #greenhousegases that have unequivocally caused #globalwarming. Read #IPCC's Synthesis Report 👉 https://t.co/zAMzd12lR7

The recently released@Oxfam report spells it out as it is. No climate action will work unless the world's richest 1% (and if you earn above USD140,000 a year, you are one of those 1%) reduce their consumption drastically. This is a mess of the rich & paid for by the poor.
