We identify a role for desmosome mutations in the stroma as drivers of #melanoma. We suspect there are many others, yet to be discovered. A very fun and highly collaborative project spanning several years.

Stromal mutations occur, but hard to prove they are functional. In our new paper with @TreyIdeker’s lab and led by @MohitaTagore and @maayan_baron, we show that we can find these by looking for mutations across a “class” of genes rather than single genes:

This is pretty cool. The skin is bombarded by the world, so how does it resist the onslaught? Gets colonized by neutrophils that act as a shield. Makes a lot of sense. .

This is a really cool approach to engineering cell therapies based on metabolic programs. Imagine a lot of future ways to go with this. Check it out.
