Automattic did so much good for the open source community for ~20 years. And yet, claiming it is defending open source ethics (of giving back) it committed blatant theft: stealing 13 years’ work and userbase of another team. Absolutely unethical. I no longer trust Automattic.
So this is the future of WordPress. Automattic - the entity controlling Wordpress .org and the WP trademark - can take over *any* plugin that it wants, when they want, and how they want. Automattic is burning the principles of open source for their own profit. A sad, new era.

I often say that “consulting” is a widely abused word, and that for many ‘consultancies’ it actually means selling “an ass on a chair” with the ambition of spending as much time as possible on said chair. Imagine a situation where doing your job is bad for business.
@Pragmatic_Eng This concern is interesting because it shows how there are business models that are at odds with increased efficiency. Any business model that bills for time spent will have a natural pushback on adopting approaches that reduce time spent for the same output.
