One parent has challenged over 60 books in @katyisd without filing formal requests for reconsideration. She has been given a “fast pass” to submit lists of dozens of books directly to the “internal review” cue. This is not normal. Even for us.
112 book titles were on the Katy ISD “internal review” cue between October 23, 2023 - January 11, 2024. 62 of those titles were submitted to the District for “internal review” by one parent.

Thankfully The Day the Crayons Quit has been *retained* in @katyisd but the fact that staff time was wasted to “review” it over its references to “nudity” (a crayon without a wrapper) is Orwellian and outrageous.
Book banners who claim they are only targeting “pornography” have created a new, Orwellian definition of the word, so extreme that, in one Texas school district, it now includes Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss and a book about a crayon that lost its wrapper. https://t.co/Z6QsET2jPq

LGBTQ+ people are under attack in the state of Texas. This is awful.
.@UHouston has heartbreakingly disbanded their LGBTQ Resource Center, a beacon of love & support for queer Coogs for over 13 years. Words can't express my rage towards legislation like SB 17, so instead I'll use them to express my love & appreciation for the staff of @UHLGBTQ.
