Crucial 60 days ahead. If we can intercept all trash tsunamis through this final stretch of the rainy season, it will mark the first time in decades the Gulf of Honduras has remained clean.

This is the riverbed of the River Dore in Herefordshire today. What a drought. There were still crayfish under the rocks. Eerie scene.

Updated chart for big floods (5m plus) on the Wye at Hereford. Since new gauge was installed in 1988. More floods in last 5 years than the previous 30. More floods this year (3) than in any preceding 5 year period. And itโ€™s going to get worse.

In light of recent events Iโ€™ve been looking at the number of major floods on local rivers over the last 30 years. Itโ€™s quite an eye opener. The last 5 years has seen around three times more than the preceding 6 five years. May even be time for a couple more!

Planting more trees in the uplands of south-east Wales is not the complete and final solution to flooding events, but hell, itโ€™s definitely an intelligent (and relatively inexpensive) place to start addressing the issue. @Stumpupfortrees

May not fit the narrative trying to be created here but best not rely on old signs - they struggle to keep up! 9 five metre floods pre 2000 10 in the 24 years since 8 in the last 5 years - almost the same as in preceding 200 years! 3 in the last 2 years, including yesterday

Interesting picture from the Wye in Hereford. 1795 was a bad year for climate change.

Climate change is a clear and present danger. One off flooding and weather events in our City are no longer one off, they are sustained and regular. For every 1โ„ƒ of warming, the atmosphere can hold 7% more moisture, that's where the water is coming from.

This is crazy, half a million bike rides in Hereford in 5 years, best bit is the balancing and on scheme work is done by cargo bikes and trailers and the maintenance is subcontracted to a community interest company (Hereford Cycle Hub) giving them secure revenue. ๐Ÿ’•

Despite large poultry units being a key driver of river pollution, their number has soared near the Wye and Severn

Industrial response to industrialised agriculture. Muck now produced locally is way beyond sustainable carrying capacity of land so bring it to a massive shed by lorry and process it. If we want ยฃ4 chickens this is the way to do it.

I believe that we are not hearing more about early diagnoses and cures because they will disrupt traditional pharmaceutical/biotech/financial models enormously. Looking forward to the renewed focus on evidence-based science that made the US the gold standard in health care!

The soil is the solution to floods, droughts, climate, nutrition, water quality, water temperture......and yet too often it is being used abused. Next time you see a soil filled river after rain have a think if this is how it should be.
