Lots of roadwork in the neighborhood today. Glad to see speedhumps installed on the 3000 blk of 24th, 3000 blk of Thayer, and the 2800 blk of 27th. Also glad to see work in progress to install accessibility ramps on the Thayer crosswalk at 24th and repair the sinkhole on 27th.

I’m aware of the large sinkhole that opened up in the past few days on the 2800 block of 27th St NE and just called it in to the @DDOTDC Traffic Operations Center. I’d expect crews there inside of 24 hours but folks should exercise caution around it; it’s enormous inside.

While I stand by my commitment to advocate for speedhumps on every local block in 5C07, I’m happy to hear about other issues folks are also raising. I’m putting in tickets for the missing stop sign on Woodridge at Thayer and for curb extension on Thayer at RIA

I’m aware that speedhump signage is up (and so speedhumps are mid-install) on the 3000 block of Thayer, the 3000 block of 24th, and the 2800 block of 27th. I appreciate the many calls and emails from neighbors upset they weren’t consulted and about their quality of life.

Correction: while a driver was involved in the crash, there wasn’t actually contact with the SUV. Alexandr was injured by the ground making an evasive manuever.

A reminder that comments on the revised NOI for the Queens Chapel Rd NE corridor project are due on Monday, August 4th. 30-year-old Alexandr Nikolenko was riding his bike through QC/Channing in November when a driver fatally struck him with an SUV. He died weeks later.

I know setting up for Roving Leaders Day is tough work logistically but this is behavior fundamentally unfit for anyone operating a motor vehicle on our streets, triply so for doing official work. With many folks coming to the neighborhood, it also induces even worse behavior.

Glad to see @OPinDC’s “omnibus” text amendment includes clarifying language to the zoning regs for bus service segments that qualify for halving the parking minimums. This has long been a frustrating ambiguity for projects along RIA along 5C07’s northern boundary.

While there is now no hope for a road diet or bike lanes on SDA by 2027, I remain optimistic we’ll have them by 2040. And our efforts over the past two years will have been essential in having gotten it done. Thanks @CMZParker5 and the advocates for this ongoing work!.

Last week, I testified on the merits of a road diet, but prefaced it with acceptance that construction funding wouldn’t be available soon. I hope we can use any study result to look into these critical corridor improvements later, like through the Strategic Bikeways Plan.
