In super strong CAD setups like this, heavy precip is usually what ultimately erodes the cad dome from top-down sensible heat transfer between the warm nose aloft and the colder near-surface layer. Dry slotting us doesn’t really help much

@CameronJNixon you’ll love this sounding. ZR with a side of hail.
Wait wtf is this?! Why am I getting legit elevated supercells in North Carolina on Sunday with freezing rain?! If we get any decent wind gusts from these w/ ice on power lines and trees, a lot of folks in NC could be in big trouble. 😳 #ncwx

The trend is your friend if you want to keep your lights on in Charlotte. 🤞🏻 NO MATTER WHAT travel will be treacherous to near impossible Saturday night-Early Tuesday at least.
Model consensus freezing rain forecast has steadily gone down since yesterday in most of NC Likely has to do w/ CAMs being weighted more in the NBM now, & the CAMs can better sniff out the low-level cold nose/potential for more sleet than freezing rain Hope this continues

@PeeDee_WxSC Having watched a ton of these events the last 10-15 years, imho the CMC has typically been the best global model with CAD once we get ~ 3-4 days out, tho it can struggle with synoptics sometimes. Usually some combo of CMC and NAM inside 48 hours is usually the way to go imho
