Kudos to our client for pursuing this complaint - and to the @TorontoStar for shining a light on this important issue.

This case highlights major issues with our system of police oversight. As I told the @TorontoStar: “Allowing the investigation to be conducted by the police service internally really undermines any trust that the public has in the police watchdog." https://t.co/j6dG5lo4hB

Corey David believes it’s unfair that the OIPRD assigned his complaint to an investigator at the same Toronto police 14 Division where he was arrested.

I didn't imagine my first #lawtwitter meetup would be all the way in Yellowknife! I'm here for a visit (convinced, perhaps in part by @JohnHaleCrimLaw's tweets) and had to meet the legend himself. Grateful for a defence bar that is so friendly and generous with time. Thx John!

The @LawSocietyLSO minimum wage debate is only possible because articling students are excluded from workplace protections in the Employment Standards Act. But why are they excluded? We found some answers in the @LawSocietyLSO's archives. A thread...🧵

The LSO minimum wage debate exploits an arbitrary statutory loophole the LSO itself requested & obtained. If Benchers vote down minimum wage for articling, folks should go to Province & demand repeal of the ESA exemption. By @Clmumme @ryandwhite12 & me. https://t.co/wK9qMKNxDW

even before covid, the shelter system was failing. since, things have gotten worse. this week there were two extreme cold warnings & ppl tried desperately to get indoors. this week out of 47 central intake calls, only 4 resulted in anything. 43 remained outside. read on: [1/]

My first intro to criminal law and practice was with Judge Beach - through a student placement at the Provincial Court and the @SchulichLaw Criminal Clinic. So grateful for the time, energy and care she put into teaching students. Thank you and congratulations Judge Beach!

When Legal Aid will fund a guilty plea but not a trial, you know there is a problem. These courts and new certificates are designed to induce guilty pleas and grease the wheels of injustice.

As the cold weather sets in with the shelter system still in crisis, this community-proposed Winter Plan is a remarkable resource for the City of Toronto. Let us hope @JohnTory has the humility to listen to these experts and does everything in his power to save lives this winter.

We requested a recount for #DavenportTO to ensure voters could rely on the democratic results after a series of anomalies and concerns from voters were raised. Now that all the ballots have been reviewed, we're satisfied that each ballot was accounted for, and the result stands.

Also: @cjc_TO has done hundreds of hours of legal work for free for the encampments this past year and a half. If you have spare cash, they would be a WONDERFUL place to help keep afloat.
