Man what a privilege to just now be learning how terrifying measles is, huh? We fucking eradicated it but thanks to Covid immune dysfunction and antivaxxers bringing it back, we get to watch an outbreak spread again!!!
I’m learning and I’m NOT liking what I’m learning.
A girl on TikTok: “Has anyone else had the problem where your teachers keep being absent? We have subs all the time.”
Followed by… “I’ve literally been forgetting random words all week. I have no clue why.”
🥴🫠
Mayo Clinic is getting rid of soda (not diet sodas) in their cafeterias because sugary drinks are bad for you, but doesn’t require masks during a pandemic where a BSL-3 virus is disabling and killing people every day.
Someone close to me was in the ER a couple days ago. Their ER doc told them that when they had c19 a couple months ago, their only symptom was chest pain. They discovered when they went in for said chest pain that they had active c19-induced myocarditis.
I mean this as respectfully and with as much care as possible, but why would you speak before congress about your child’s detrimental and agonizing long covid symptoms without a mask? 😭
It’s going to get so ugly. There will be plenty of people who don’t even bother to tell you they’re actively sick with Covid so you can choose to leave. If you’ve been out & about unmasked and lucky to avoid it in the past, I’ll venture to guess you won’t stay so lucky.
It’s been said before but bears repeating, as evidenced by
@RollingStone
, masking is punk af. It shows you care. It shows you aren’t afraid to buck the status quo of constant illness.
You can't make this shit up. FB friends on vacation in Thailand share a photo of them on a train. Everyone around them is masked, but they aren't. Someone comments asking about it - "It's an Asian thing. They masked even before covid."
No...it's a human decency thing.
Love this Barbie the 3yo got for Christmas from my sister. My kids’ normal is wearing a mask in public, so it’s cool they have dolls that do too! Representation is cool.
What’s the German word for when you’re exhausted from living through a pandemic, wish you could be delulu like everyone else, but you know too much to really want that, and so you’re sad?
I don’t want to see another unmasked teacher on TikTok talking about how their AP students can’t answer simple, easy questions like “what’s your mother’s last name?”
If you can’t figure out why this could be happening, perhaps you can’t answer a basic question yourself!
Hi, I’m Brianna & I live in MN. I reject the notion that COVID is inevitable & reinfection is normal & healthy. I will continue to wear my mask & act with caution as an act of compassion for myself & my community, and to break the chain of transmission. It’s easy. Join me?
Hi! I’m Lindy and live in Seattle. I honor my purpose of not causing harm to myself or others by wearing an N95 at work or while indoors. I refuse to accept that infections and reinfections are inevitable, and I will continue to do my best to break chains of transmission.
Does being the last COVID cautious person in your life have you daydreaming of moving to a remote cabin in the woods/island/anywhere but where you are? Just me, or….?
Serving airborne mom at kid’s online school’s park play date. ✌🏻
Sometimes I hate being so perceived as the only masked one, but I think of how reassuring it is when I see one other masker out, so I aim to be that for anyone else.
Listening to a podcast I typically enjoy–one host is sick after flying with “a cold”. The other host, who had long COVID (idk if they still have symptoms): “I just feel like summer is a notorious time for colds and flus.”
I’m sorry, what?! No, it’s actually not. 🫠
It’s so strange to me how some people are all about being “healthy” like it’s a personality: religiously working out, eating balanced meals, tracking sleep, etc. BUT masking isn’t part of their lifestyle.
Is it performative or do they not really understand health?
For many of us, nearly everyone we know decided wearing a mask in public was too much hassle in order to keep us as a regular part of their lives (and us/them safe!) So I guess if we seem angry, whiny, one track minded… I’d venture to guess that’s why!
The thing that sucks about being c19 cautious is the complexity it adds to everything.
Home repairs? Jump through hoops to ensure they can be done safely or skip.
Doc appt? Send mssgs in advance about accommodations. 🤞your HCW is understanding.
Husband, wearing a mask, walked by a couple people, one of which he overheard say: “I’ve been seeing a lot of people wearing masks lately. Wonder what’s going on.”
💀😩
TikTok influencer, whipping up some nasty drink concoction she thinks will stop her from getting sick: “I’ll do literally anything to not be sick.”
…anything, you say? ANYTHING? Hmmmm… bet I can name one thing you don’t do…
In today’s world it’s a privilege not to catch COVID. To avoid hospitals where infection is rife without masks, to avoid in-person workplaces, to afford preventatives and tests, to be able to home/remote school your children. To not have to attend unmasked funerals, gatherings.
Apparently losing most of the hair on one’s head from a virus *still* isn’t enough to get some people to wear a mask to avoid getting that still rampant virus again. I CANT UNDERSTAND HOW WE EVER WILL GET OUT OF THIS MESS.
Just heard a podcast host say they have the “Coachella Flu”, but don’t worry, they’re not actually sick, it’s just from spending a couple days in the desert dust.
Why are the vibes off? Because you’re playing normal while millions of children try to navigate a world where no one cares about them and everyone ignores the thing that killed their parent/caregiver.
One of the hardest things to reckon with in this ongoing pandemic with young children is that I went into having kids with a large supportive community.
4 years in, it’s just us taking any COVID precautions and this isn’t at all what I expected from this chapter of parenting.
Wild that we can be in one of the biggest covid waves of the entire pandemic and your kid’s nurse practitioner’s reaction to you being masked at an appt. is: so is there someone immune compromised at home you’re trying to protect, or…?
Been spending time reading about the AIDS epidemic and it really feels like we’re just reliving history with COVID. Replace “homosexuals” with “elderly/immune compromised” and we’ve transported to modern day 2024.
I struggle most with feeling like a huge weirdo masking when me & fam are the only ones in a group of people we've known forever. Friends/family who don't and wont. I know in my bones what we're doing is best for us, but still hard to shake how weird it makes me feel.
I don’t know how to rectify seeing people live 100% normally, while yesterday I hid my kids in the basement, opened windows, ran every air purifier, & monitored air quality for a contractor meeting where everyone agreed to mask.
Look what you made her do. Voter registrations on were not filled with blank spaces after Taylor Swift called on fans to register to vote in an Instagram story post.
The post worked all too well, with over 35,000 fans registering to vote through the…
It takes a village to raise a child, but the village doesn't think a novel virus that's killed millions (thousands last week alone) and disables people daily is anything to worry about or avoid, so you alone are the village now.
“Brianna, wow, how do you read so much?”
Ok I won’t gatekeep: Have absolutely no life because you’re so busy trying to survive a pandemic that your biggest outing is your every other month Costco trip and no one wants to hang out with you because you don’t live like it’s 2019.
I saw someone say "Wow with all her precautions and resources, even SHE got it."
My friends, nothing short of an n95 mask is going to give you any sort of reliable protection. What you see here is exactly how you get covid for a second time.
@DrTedros
"It is therefore with great hope that I declare
#COVID19
over as a global health emergency.
However, that does not mean COVID-19 is over as a global health threat.
Last week, COVID-19 claimed a life every three minutes – and that’s just the deaths we know about"-
@DrTedros
Oh it’s the general vibe of late stage capitalism and societal decline during a mostly ignored and “don’t talk about it” pandemicene on top of climate crisis. As everyone pretends things feel really fine and dandy, anyone paying attention is paying the mental price.
is anyone else just like, really fucking burnt out on life? just exhausted in a way you’ve never been before?
honestly asking if this is just a me thing or a general vibe
Want to have fun practicing shameless masking? Walk into a Menards masked. Had a cashier walk across the entire front of the store staring me down as I waited to check out. He probably didn’t expect me to hold his gaze. He caved first. 🖕🏻
This week in a Still Coviding group someone said they were the only ones masked on a ✈️ . Take-off delayed because a family that connected from an int’l flight were suspected to be ill with measles & were removed. At bare minimum, mask at the airport & on planes, people. 😵💫
My 7yo has made friends with another boy at his online school whose family is also covid cautious and they’re currently google meeting & playing Mario Kart together (it’s spring break) and my heart is bursting. 🥹😭🥰
WHY are there not masks in patient rooms at the doctor? Whenever I'm at an appt. & a doctor comes in and sees me masked, says "Oh, would you like me to mask?" (YES), they are gone for 2 minutes down the hall apparently looking for one, somewhere, anywhere...
Our dentist’s office apparently had their hvac system upgraded, the air purifier is blasting on high, dentist & tech are double masked in n95 & surgical, we’re in a private closed room, and this is the co2 rating. 😬
Whenever I’m scrolling social media & think “Man these people do EVERYTHING & never get sick!” I look at the oversharers pages who do it all & their posts are riddled with sickness in between *all.the.things*. Just a reminder that many are sick, they’re just not talking about it.
@OverlordMarie
@MayoClinic
Seriously dismayed by
@MayoClinic
dropping masks. Not something a “world renowned” healthcare facility should be doing. So many hospitals followed their lead, too. Shameful.
I guess I think differently about my one wild and precious life. I’ve had people I love tell me that they can’t be c19 cautious forever because YOLO, essentially. But to me YOLO means caring for my body, health, & wellbeing to the best of my ability.
I don’t want an “I told you so!” moment. I want people to believe the science, the advocates, and my apparently futile attempts NOW and protect themselves now.
There's a lot of talk about the increase in kids being absent from school due to illness... but let me tell you, my kid hasn't been absent from remote school once yet, but he has had 4 teachers out due to illness in the last 1.5 weeks.
What I see missing from the “kids have always been this sick” argument is an explanation for why adults are just as sick now. That actually isn’t a thing; parents didn’t catch every single bug their kids brought home. But sure, keep arguing kids have always been this sick. 🤨
Since quitting their cautious lifestyle after getting c19, an acquaintance I know has no joke been in the ER with their kids & self upwards of 20x in the last year, and now one kid is hospitalized with RSV. "Normal" doesn't sound like much fun. Will keep on keepin' on over here.
This is why I stopped donating blood at
@MayoClinic
. I'm not risking a covid infection in an unmasked facility. Such a bummer. Even if the tech masked at my request, the rest of the room isn't masked, so there's little safety in an airborne pandemic.
@catladyactivist
Although we no longer require donors, drive hosts or vaccinated employees & volunteers to wear masks, donors can still opt to wear masks, which are available at blood drives/donation centers. We'll also graciously accommodate mask requests from donors where close interaction…
Caught eyes with a doc in a good quality mask in the hospital. We both smiled (smized?) at each other. Doc walks in for my appt, it’s her!! Score! 🙌🏻 The relief of a provider who GETS IT.
I like how our choices have been:
◼️Indoor swimming lessons in plague air
◼️Outdoor swimming lessons in apocalypse air
◼️No lessons, hopefully your kids can float
I feel like I’m in one of those spirals. Does everyone who’s unmasked at Target just perceive no threat or do they genuinely not understand the issue of getting repeatedly infected with COVID and other viruses? No knowledge of a summer wave? Ugh.
Really? A non-sterilizing vaccine/booster is the BEST way to reduce the chance of infecting your friends?
Be for real, Dr. Hotez. The BEST way to reduce the chance of that is wearing a mask.
14/n in my opinion the best way to reduce the likelihood that you will infect your friends, colleagues, family is to keep up with your boosters/annual immunizations. For that reason I would have recommended this past week that everyone receive another XBB not just those over 65
I really and truly believe his campaign staff and democrats in general underestimate just how badly he’s disenfranchised the disabled, immune-compromised, and COVID aware community.
The U.S. has had 139 million infections this
#surge
(credible interval, 97-160 million).
That's 41.6% of the U.S. population (3 in 7) if assuming nobody got double-infected this surge. If assuming 20% got double-infected this surge, then 33.3% of people got infected (1 in 3).
Every day I daydream about living during less hopeless, less bleak and disheartening times. We live in a time where we have the knowledge & tools to fix many of our problems, but it’s too political or it doesn’t benefit billionaires, so we all have to pay the price.
Lot of QTs to this saying online friends aren't real, but idk, I think those of us who are c19 cautious have formed a really lovely little digital community and many of us would be friends IRL if we were closer.
What I don’t understand about the bodysuit trend is…why can’t we just tuck tight shirts in? Why do they have to go up our butts? And snap at the crotch? Does this make me old? lol I genuinely don’t get it.
You ever think “I’m no expert in virus mitigation” but then you try to whittle down some easy, precautionary tips for less cautious friends and realize “well shit I know too much” lol
For anyone still confused: Covid is AIRBORNE! Mask up, stop raw dogging the air with random people, quit relying on your vaccine to prevent infection, understand that rapid tests aren't going to catch every infection.
A room full of people who were all vaccinated AND all tested beforehand, and yet 17 out of 18 got Covid.
This is why masks are essential at ALL times around folks who are vulnerable (which includes in all public places, b/c vulnerable people need to grocery shop too.)
What the
@CDCgov
failed to realize is that the PR “trick” of releasing news you want to bury on a Friday afternoon doesn’t dupe the cautious crowd. We’re here, ready to roast you & your bad policies 24/7/365, loud from the rooftops.
Dude everyone hosting a podcast has a stuffed nose right now, huh. It is tough to listen to. 😵💫 If I hosted a podcast I’d be a hardcore masker (like I am lol) to ensure the thing I use to make my podcast, my VOICE, was in tip-top shape.
Amazing we can be 3 years into this with limited quality mask options for kids. So we splurged and got each kid a
@flo_mask
! Excited to have masks for them without gaping holes at the nose!
I just feel like the fight is sucked out of me. How do we watch everyone we love infect themselves into disability and death? While we sit on the sidelines as “others”, told we’re asking for too much, being over the top. Idk the weight just feels heavy today.
So how are we dealing with our extreme disappointment in 98% of humanity this week?
I’m feeling a pull towards screaming into the void followed by rage baking.
Wild to think there are some families and friend groups without a single c0vid cautious person to even slightly disrupt their idea of normalcy. They’re just out there really thinking 2020 was it and their persistent lingering cough or limp dick is just random, normal aging.
This isn’t even remotely funny. I’m so tired of these memes. There are plenty of ways you can avoid many sicknesses but no one wants to put in an ounce of work.
Make another meme, commiserate with other parents, blow noses, chug DayQuil, and carry on.
GIVE ME A BREAK,
@nytimes
! We aren’t post-pandemic. We know that c19 causes immune system dysregulation. AND IMMMUNITY DEBT ISNT A REAL THING!! (brb off to bash my head into a wall repeatedly…🫠)
@RealGayArbys
I’m Brianna! I love to read, be outdoors, fiddle with easy gardening, biking, and cooking & baking. I’ve got young kids and my husband & I are doing all we can to keep their health intact, plus we care deeply about protecting ourselves & community too. And so we mask. ✌🏻
