On oletettu, että Y-kromosomin I-haploryhmän kantajat ovat saapunut Suomeen lännestä ja N-haploryhmän idästä. Vastoin tätä perinteistä itä-länsijakoa tutkimuksessa löydettiin todisteita siitä, että N-haploryhmän kantajia on saapunut Suomeen sekä etelästä että idästä.
